Advice needed

Our office has had a revision, I am part time and could of gone full time but was offered new part time duty which was ment I finished before 12 noon. This suited my personal needs. Duty has totally changed from what i agreed to and can not be done in time. I keep asking for it to be resolved and have been tested twice, both times on quiet days, both times well over time and not all the duty completed either. It is parcels, and driving. The manager is jacking in the job. Its a 30 hour duty, 30 mins break and 10 mins(vechicle maint and WTLL) No weekly check is done on vechicle, passenger door will only open from the inside and back doors now will not open. Today I put my foot down and took parcels back, was 50 mins over all ready. Union rep is no use. Where do I go from here, any advice would be a great help.

Start on time.
Take your meal relief prior to dispatch.
Finish at the time your duty finishes.

You are paid by the hour to work from your start time until your finish time.
You are not contracted to complete your duty.
If the duty isn't finished, that is your manager's problem. Not yours.
You are not paid enough to worry about incomplete duties.

Thank you, I will try to do it, I just get really confused, no one in the office officially cuts off, there are so many things going on. Its like there 2 different delivery schedules, one official and the other one which no one needs to know about.

Put your van off service. You are supposed to work from back of van. You are jeapordising the safety of the mail if it is on show in the front of vehicle. If anything goes wrong or missing you will be liable as there is time built into your duty to perform daily vehicle checks. You will have been trained, briefed on the safeguarding of mails. It's your managers problem to get vehicle fit for purpose. There is such a thing as hire companies if your current fleet has no spare for you to use while repairs are carried out.

The van has a side door which I have been using, I do keep all mail in the back apart for the parcel I am about to deliver. Its acceptable practice where I work to stack parcels in the front seat to go quicker and thats the bench mark but as I said I only keep the next drop with me. I did that when I was tested and nothing was said. We still work on job and finish. If you finish early you can start earning over time if theres any going or just go home.

I do rush and do not relax (like a coiled spring, some people are trying there hardest to make me snap, I am going to). I do try and go by the book, many customers are supprised when I say I need a signature for signed items, I just say its a sackable offence if I just leave it for them, but that makes me look slow. I know I am not, but as I said I have been tested twice in two weeks and each time I am well over time due to volume and not slowness, its being implied that I am, but not said.

Ask them to put in writing that they consider that you are slow, and ask for additional training to improve your speeds.
You will not hear another word from them as they will be incapable of managing this request.

ok it may be acceptable to your manager to have packets in the front but if royal mail security or ib do a random check then thats you out of the door. or on a warning.

Point taken, will not do that, its so hard not to follow the "acceptable" practices, so much pressure, told manager today that on advice given I do not need to work over my time. Finished 8 mins over and parcels left, got abuse from an other van driver for "not helping" and staying to finish the job, may I note on my days off I come back to undelivered mail which he refuses to deliver on the duty I do. Thank you all for the support, its very hard being tormented that I can never do my job right and how slow I am, when deep down I know I hate to cut corners and I do it to the best of my abilities.

This harassment is going on everywhere if your rep is useless don't worry the help doesn't stop with him get on the bullying and harassment line tell them your depressed and stressed about what's appening. As long as you do your job they can't touch you

simple answer to this problem get your dom to come out with you if he chooses not to then and if your call into your office remind him/her you offered him/her the option of going out in the van with you........dont take any bollocks off him/her they`re there to do a job and support the work crew.........any problems with your dom ask for his/her area manager to come in and sort it........i should know i had this problem 25yrs ago when i first started!!!

I'd suggest first finding out exactly what time has been allocated for packets on your delivery. ie 500 DP's = 20 attendance items approx. If your duty has say, 500 DP's, but they are expecting you to take out 50+ attendance items then you are set up to fail from the start. Ask if any manual intervention was given for packets on your delivery and if so how much?

Keep in mind post modernisation revision its not oversized packets only, its any item you need to knock on the door for. ie recorded letter etc..

Also as others have stated you should take the van out of service until the repairs are completed. Go by the book and ask for everything in writing.

Cut off again today, and more people are now cutting off as they are going over their time since they are not allowd out early. This morning an employee complained to me that they are not allowd out early any more as someone has "grassed" them up to the manager and when they find out who the "grass" is, then there will be trouble. What I can not understand is the logic, by going out at the right time and doing the job as agreed the lack of time allowd shows up, when the manager was allowing all the corners to be cut there was no cut offs and many rounds completted before time. Those doing all the short cuts undermind the so called "slow" people and help to cut our jobs and makes the managers job easy to pick on the workers who want to do it right. I have never ever worked in a place like this before, or has the work place changed that much and this is now normality.

i use to worry about cutting off. i dont care anymore. things are coming to a head in our office now. people are sick and tired of the constant crap. cant wait to see it all hit the fan over xmas.
