POSTMAN BAGS NOW BANNED?

We've been told today in our office that we can on longer use the traditional postman satchels and if we are on a van share you have to use your trolleys and if you have a HCT duty you have to push your HCT to every stop. If you use your satchel you will be SACKED.

Has anyone else heard this? We were told it was a nationwide thing.

It was part of the 2010BT agreement that use of the correct equipment was mandatory, be that pouch, HCT LWT. So if your duty has been identified as a LWT delivery then the LWT becomes mandatory.

It is meant to be nationwide, however some deliveries will still use the pouch. For instance steep hills, loops with high rise flats, or high risk areas where the trolley would be an inappropriate method. In those cases though they should be using the smaller new style pouch.

yes, once methods are deployed they are mandatory. Its alot easie,r but alot slower, work up to your time and cut off if you don't have time finish the delivery.

In that case then the delivery should not be a HCT delivery even if within 1 mile of the office as it would be inappropriate. Of course that puts the onus on managers who just leave the decision making to the duty holder and then play dumb when it goes wrong.

Not unless the duty has been designed that way. But then that would mean a loop had been designed with the possibility of 40kg of mail and packets

all specials are to be kept on the person at all times, is that not correct?

even with park and poop you will still have specials that can be delivered by hand ie: A4's Amazon small pkts etc.

what are you supposed to do with them? you can't leave them in your HCT / LWT.

stick them in your pocket? tuck them in your socks? or just hope no-one nicks them as you are not allowed to carry a pouch around with you anymore.

That time is dependent upon the risk assessment of the area of delivery, like many other OPGs nationwide I have to work by a 2 minute rule in a high risk area. Why would you be out of sight of the HCT for greater than 10mins, if using it correctly? If you lock it up to go indoors inside a block of flats, you simply keep a check on time and break off from delivery before the risk assessment deadline passes to see the HCT is safe and then resume delivering.

A farce of a system that has no in built flexibility or common sense and even worse fails to deal with muscular and skeletal problems despite the reason for adopting these systems is to take weight off the shoulder. Problem is the weight has been transferred to other areas of the body.
However forget about finishing early and lets use their methods to the book and see costs shoot up, and claims for industrial injuries fly through the roof.

HCT users in my office chain them to trees, lamp posts or leave them in people's gardens to watch but rarely so the pull them from door to door. They are basically a mobile bag box and no they're no empty when they do this. This isn't one or 2 doing it, it's all HCT users.

The 'new' mini pouches must have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere. The label on the one I use says it was manufactured in Sri Lanka in August 2002

We had the new mini pouches when we started P/L but they were crap and the handles snapped and they tore easily when you put more than 4 bundles in and they stopped using them
