Half Year Figures

Figures announced today report that RM Group profits are £144 million, up from £12 million on the same time last year. Packets account for 47% of total revenue, letter revenue was 2% higher as a result of increase in stamp prices, but letter volumes fell by 9%.

The 9% fall in letters was in line with expectations, but the amount of marketing mail was increasing, now accounting for around half the daily postbag.

If Royal Mail managers receive a bonus basically for selling Rathbone Place for £130m the CWU should call for an immediate public enquiry.

Don't know if anyone understands this, but I'll try my best, when they say letters drop 9% they mean the mail that is picked up and processed by Royal Mail" it doesn't include the mail picked up by TNT, uk mail from businesses which they sort and drop of at mail centres, for us to deliver, only reason I know this is my line manager explained it to us a few weeks ago. So when they say drop 9% in letter volumes, it's bulls**t

Funnily enough I've heard different. In that all DSA mail is included in the figures. Mind you I'd prefer to believe your Lino.

Anyone got the actual definitive answer in how the figures are calculated , including/excluding DSA mail?

I ve always been told it was OUR processed mail only and did not include DSA.

In 4 years my bags have gone up from 5 to 9 a day that is an 80% increase

Either way, you only have to look at your walk to see more than half of it is DSA now. You can even see the bidding wars where a different logo is overprinted onto the letter. I remember a WTL video calling it 'co-ompetition' or something equally stupid.

I was told a few years ago by a processing manager that the only figure used for 'letters' was anything that went through the CFC machine as this was the only way to get an accurate account of letter flow. Most of the stuff that goes through the CFC is letters with stamps on.

When they say letters are down 9%, they really mean just stamped mail.

Mail decreases yet again...but TNT invest in the postal market for what...pretty much nothing?

If mail supposedly keeps on dropping year after year then who is going to buy us? I would say no "one" because its got a good investment and will show very little return.
