What happens if i cannot complete?

Just looking for a bit of advice. I start at my correct time and finish at my correct time. Parcels in my office have been through the roof this week yet we are still told to do lapsing. I told my manager today that i didn't think i would be able to do the lapsing as i was really busy but if i could then i would. I suggested leaving the lapsing till the end of my duty and if i had time i would happily do it. Manager insisted i take the lapsing with me. I then asked what would happen if i couldn't complete. I was told that whatever i took out HAS to be delivered and i would be charged with willfull delay if i returned anything.

Now i have family commitments which mean i cannot work past 3pm which is my finish time with my break being 3pm -3:15 at the end of my shift. What would happen if i thought i would complete, got out on delivery and then found i couldnt complete? Would i be charged with willfull delay for bringing stuff back even though i had notified the manager prior to delivery i couldn't complete?

Im sure i read something on here that states if i couldnt complete while out on delivery that as long as i notified the manager as soon as i realised then that is acceptable, but i cant find it.

Feel as if im being pressurised into working past my time for nothing and being threatened with walk tests if i cannot complete. Any advice appreciated.

You should inform them before you go out of the office that you wont be able to complete then you 'cut off'. Its easier said than done though, I have often got it wrong and left either to much or not enough, and the problem gets worse when your park and loop partner cant or wont do overtime, if in doubt leave more and park up at macdonalds

DOM is trying to tell me that i cant cut off though. Saying that EVERYTHING i take out must be delivered even if i go over my time. What is the official guidelines on cutting off?

7. Should you believe that you will be unable to complete your delivery route by the end of your scheduled duty end time, you must inform your Line Manager.

This must be done at the earliest opportunity and no later than completion of delivery preparation and prior to pouches or trolleys being packed.

FEBRUARY 2012

Following numerous phone calls into the department during the last few months on the procedure for Cutting Off, the below is the wording taken directly from the agreed appendix within the Conduct Code. Discussions are scheduled to take place at national level to review this procedure and agree a simple, clear and concise set of words covering this and absorption.

PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT
Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.

AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY
If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone (telephone costs will be refunded). A written record will be kept. All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements, in writing, preferably in plastic card form if available.

Any members experiencing problems with Cutting Off should contact their local representative or their local Branch for assistance.

what happens if the manager says ok, take it all out and cut off at you're time, knowing full well that you will be bringing mail back. Surely this is wrong since ours insists we do this. Any documents on this?

Well this could be the managers get out clause - by the time the conference call has begun it is too soon for the problem to be highlighted/mentioned and if it is brought back it is not classed as a delivery failure. When we had our revisions it was common practice for part of a delivery on one day and the other part the following day, rotated on a park and loop delivery and this went on for some time, none of them were classed as failed!

Ask to see the diary entries - not only will he have not written anything but you are entitled to read it and it should scare the bejesus out of them.

b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery.

Thanks guys. If it wasnt for this forum i'd be really clueless.

EDIT, Should i print this off and show it to my manager or keep it for myself incase i do need to cut off?

The overruning deliveries stuff is in the Conduct Code.
If his rep doesn't have a copy of that already there isn't really any point showing him anything.

Surely that has to be wilful delay on the managers side as he can't cover the bit your going to bring back because its out of his reach where if you left it in he could get it delivered on overtime.
