What happens when...
What is the policy when you are sick before a holiday? Say you are off sick for 3 days prior to your booked holiday? Do you still have to call in to say you are fit to return to work?

Yes, otherwise the whole period will be classed as sickness and they could even do you for going away whilst sick if they so choose.

It is completely your choice whether you are sick or on annual leave,if you stay sick you will be credited with your annual leave and can take it later but as bag69 points out you will be subject to the conditions of sick pay policy.BrokenFlowers wrote:Ok. Alternatively you can contact your manager and be moved from sick absence to annual leave as long as it is pre-booked and enjoy your holiday.
Interestingly you can even go off on annual leave and if you become ill you can phone up and get put on sick absence thus saving what's left of your annual leave for later.Again though,you will be subject to the conditions of sick pay policy.
These options were the result of a couple of ECJ's a few years ago the names of which escape me.

Just to clarify i thought you meant you were better, in which case call to say you are fit for work. If your not better then its your choice. If you stay sick then as has been mentioned you will get your holiday days back, however it will add another 7 days to your sick record. You can always try and get a doctors note stating that going on holiday would be beneficial. Most employers would honour this. However dont forget this is RM that we are talking about and they will use every trick they can to get you.
