We heard in office today that a private company will start collecting "dead " and "killed off " mail from delivery offices. This mail will be processed by private staff and than hand over to nearest Mail Centre.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Perhaps for small delivery offices ? but not for callers offices where over 300 callers come in every day. We have 60 plus deliveries in city centre delivery office and we open 8am --6pm with out closing down for meal break.

The rts is done by the callers office in my D.O

For the time being , our union did not agree .... but how long will it last before RTS/RLB mail would be processed by private company?

Why would it be? One member of staff doing the deads, usually callers/phg/rehab duty and then the lorry comes and takes it to the MC (when they're collecting the collections).

I can't see anything in it for Royal Mail.
It's not that time consuming or costly and to be honest,it's usually done by someone on light duties.
Maybe if you could collate all of the RTS into one place and (not) pay some workfare guys to do it you could make savings but...is it really worth the hassle...personally i doubt it.

It wouldn't make any sense at all. These operations are usually built in to someones duty and the mail is sent directly to the MC.

Already done - he said anything over 12" was odd and shouldn't be made longer :whistle
