Off sick

I have been working for Royal Mail for 9 months on a fixed term temporary contract. Unfortunately, I had a slip disc in March and went off sick for two weeks until I had an epidural injection to relieve the pain. Seven months on and the same thing seems to have happened again, this time I am off sick for three weeks until I see my consultant on Wednesday to see whether an epidural injection will do the trick again.

I love my job as a postwoman but I am worried that I am becoming a liability to Royal Mail and my contract will not be extended again in January, the worry just never goes away so making me feel worse. I cannot see myself doing anything else. Atos have been in touch with me and sent a report to work saying that I am unfit to work.

I expect to receive a 1st warning on my return but can anyone advise me on what might happen next.

Is the slipped disc attributable to work, are you on deliveries, do you carry a pouch or use a trolley?

The slipped disc is attributable to work, I am on deliveries and use both the pouches and a golfing trolley depending on the heaviness of the day.

in long term you will probably get an offer to leave on medical ground, depending how bad it is.

its an industrial injury they won't end your contract unless they are doing a revision or making office cuts, dont fret.

They wont end the contract, but I would doubt if it will be renewed if it is costing them money. However, if it has been caused by a work related event and you can prove negligence by the employer, then you may be able to sue for compensation. You would need to take legal advice.
