What's the craic with d2ds?

Nowadays I get in and the full-timer has bagged up both walks so that we can be rushed out the door asap. Generally d2ds on 'my' walk are left untouched while the ft-er tends to get most of his done.

No-one gives a frak of course but I'm concerned about the time when this is thrown back at me as 'my' problem because 'I' haven't done the d2ds. Clearly I can't prep the motherf*ckers if I don't get a chance to.

I'm in and out the office in a morning quicker than you can say 'dump your door-to-doors' nowadays what with this modernisation malarkey (aka bullsh*t). When is Royal Mail gonna sort this sh*t out? They're supposedly really bothered about d2ds, it being one of our growth markets. Meanwhile our management don't give a f*ck about door-to-doors as long as they can get most of the mail done.

Cover yourself, and insist that you are given the necessary time to prep your D2DS correctly. I daresay neither your partner or management will be sympathetic or itching to back you up if questions start being asked.

Whenever I've a part-timer with me, I've always asked who's supposed to prep their D2Ds up, and when, with no decent reply. I guess management would ideally like you to come in early to do them.

You need to have a word with the person who preps your walk.
Tell him either he either preps the D2D before he bags up or he doesn't bag up and leaves it to you.
Those are the only choices open to him.
Otherwise both of you will be P45 material, him for not prepping them and you for covering up the fact that he isn't prepping them.

1st off, are you paid to prep? if not then the onus is on those who are.
2nd, if you are paid to, then obviously you get out earlier, so prep them if you get back early, albeit you're a day behind.
3rd, if #2 and you want to get off home after an hard day, make the other sit and wait until you prep them before, he'll soon get the message, he can't leave without you!

also, when the returns are sent, they get asked "why so many"
happened here and you no longer see mountains of them piled up, of course even more o/t is now a bigger issue!

Not really. The aggreement in this office (after 12 months or more of negotiation  ) is that the full timer does ALL the prep, bags up and the part timer comes in, signs in and sods off out the door to the van.

Now where i do aggree is, that there should be no attempt to "cover up" the problem, with whatever that entails :nervous . As that could well lead to the p45. Now having read Taurus'sss post in the past, i very much doubt there is any covering up going on :thumbup

Ever since the revision started in the office i have not prepped a single d2d, killed off a letter, fetched any missorts or taken back any missorts etc. It's not my job, i dont get paid for it and doing a job i dont get paid to do is in my book, worse than coming in early unpaid. :no no :no no

My lino has often commentated on the d2d's being left, I quote THEIR AGREEMENT and he gets someone on light duties to do the prep during the day.... or not..... but thats up to him :cuppa

Other place may well have other rules but that is the craic here.

AFAIK prepping d2d and killing off deads is the responsibity of whoever preps up a walk. d2d are classed as live mail so prep them and if need be cut-off. Don't give the DOM easy fodder for a wilful delay charge. :no no :no no :no no With dead letters if the local MC are doing their job they should be sending back to the DO until they have been properly killed off. oh and the postcode/area on the ppi or hoizon labels/stamps is not a return address as the item may have been posted in a completely different area from where the return address is. :d'oh!

Exactly my point, the locally agreed system is that the fulltimer preps 1 and a half walks, the other half being done by someone throwing in mail. The missorts redirects and d2ds are the responsibility of whoever preps up the walk, not the guy coming in at 9 to deliver the stuff.

Ps took me ages to work out w.t.f a.f.a.i.k. meant ended up googling it  t.t.f.n. :wave

I wouldn't trust my job to some locally agreed system.
The national position on wilful delay is much clearer.
If you knowingly leave the mail in a box under your frame it's wilful delay.
If it's someone else's job to take it out of the box and put it in the frame they'll go too but at the end of the day the responsibility for delivering it lies with the duty holder.
You would have very little argument...you knew it was there, you knew it should be delivered but you did nothing about it.

So if the other half hadn't been done - would you just leave it behind and go out on delivery without it?
Do you think questions might have to be answered when you got back?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's happened  , I left it :so there , they asked :mad , I answered very politely with "i'm following your rules, it's not my job, you wanted us out the door... :cuppa rightly or wrongly nothing else came of it and every time i get to a fitting now it's all done.

I honestly think that we as an office are going to have to demand that management address these issues. Many in our office do not look upon d2ds as mail, nor do they look upon doing anything more than is necessary as being their role. The fact is that our revision is a failure, but it it ostensibly less of a failure than it actually is due to the shirking of particular responsibilities. As of right now managers are party to the d2d issue and are guilty of not addressing the problem, not caring about the problem, and presumably by means of obfuscation, they are guilty of hiding the issue from those farther up the chain of command. I am at present sick of seeing managers standing in a line outside the office, hi-vis(es) on, arms folded, staring at people as they come back/go out. It is time they addressed the problems and accepted the failure.

It is my intention to raise the d2d issue tomorrow and see where exactly we as a collective stand - first with our union rep, then with management. Failure to provide clear policy is unacceptable in this instance. We as a collective should be demanding that quality control is of a high standard, not of a minimum standard. These are, after all, our jobs, and if we continue to aid them whether by ignorance or lethargy, we are only putting ourselves in the line of fire, not them. Admittedly management have yet to cross the line to nastiness that is usually consistent with the evolution of a (failing) revision, but there is no reason to think that they are incapable of crossing that line. Should practices that management have aided then come to light, they will blame anybody but themselves.

Hence demanding a clear, written policy on this issue is our only way of saving ourselves from them. All d2ds should be prepped in a morning on every walk, and if this contributes to further failures, so be it. Right now the office is failing regularly. If everybody did every bit of work that was expected of them, it would be failing completely.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's a crazy place...
Budget trumps quality every day bar audit day.
That would be fine if every second word out of Moya's mouth wasn't...quality.
We seriously need to make our mind up whether we want to be the Marks&Spencer or the Poundland of the delivery world.
I really don't care which just feckin pick one and stick to it. :cuppa

FFS when are people going to realise we are well paid for what we do and when colleagues go on about door to door who the F***k voted yes at the last agreement?WE are paid to deliver mail that is falling in volume and we expect to be paid more. Alright with the revisions that are taking place we are expected to do more, we are paid for 7 hrs 48 mins a day(depending on what was agreed to).we work that time and any over that is OT.DO not come in early and as an employee challenge management that is what they are paid the extra money for (to
sort out the problems) As we are all told they are management we are postmen/women so let them sort it out.why should we fight amongst ourselves If we work our contracted hours what is the problem?Job and finish no longer exists. And if the planners have done their job right this issue will not exist in your office.
By the way I am not a company man or union rep I say it as it is Go and find another job for the same money I doubt you will find one!
