Specials to neighbours

As we are all aware specials can't be delivered to neighbours. This firm on the walk I have been doing this week keep asking me to take theirs to another nearby firm if they are not open when I get there and I have refused. Now they have spoken to the DOM and he has 'authorised' them to be left at the other firm. My question is can he actually do that since it would be breaking RM policy which he is not allowed to do? Even if he puts this in writing, which managers never want to do, I would still not be very happy with it.

No it's not.
If your manager put it in writing that he wanted you to set fire to the mail you wouldn't be covered either.
Our obligation to follow security procedures cannot be overridden by individual managers that do not have the authority to override them.
You would have some defence but you would still be in the firing line.
If i had to do it,it would be under protest and i would want that in writing...and witnessed.

Or better still, get your DOM to sign for it before you take it out with you. See if it's OK then?!

When there is nobody at the delivery address, you leave a p739 card and bring the item back to the office. That's the delivery specification for specials and I would never instruct anyone to do otherwise. The time you get someone at another address to sign for it and it goes missing, that's the delivery specification that YOU haven't followed. Don't mess about with specials.

Refuse & tell him him you don't want to be held at fault if special went missing you would be in crap & DOM would deny ever giving you permission no matter how well you think you get on with them DOMs are in it for the pay & glory and don't give a crap about you & me

Exactly. Further proof that certain members of RM's management team haven't got the brains they were born with. No offence meant to the good ones obv. There must be one or two.

So the DOM has now written an instruction that all items for this firm inc SD must be attempted delivery at the other firm first before p739. Who would be the best person to contact regarding this as it is obviously goes against the delivery specification for SD. I am thinking management wise rather than union because they will do bugger all. Already spoken to rep about it and he wasn't interested.
