20 hour contract postman duties

Just a a quick question if anyone knows, as a 20 hour post person I am on a daily basis doing redirections, kill offs, sorting all packets into frame, prepping d2d, pulling out and getting bags tied up for the duty, I was today informed off another colleague that an agreement exists that as a 20 hour per week the bags and other duties should be done for me and I should only be delivering the bags and turning up to collect them, it should be noted I'm constantly over my time and claim as overtime as has been the case for over the last 2 years.

Sounds like they assume you're fine with doing the o/t. But yeah, on 20 hours I'd expect to arrive at the d.o. to your walk being at least bundled up if not actually bagged, no kill offs, redirections or packets to do. In my d.o. 25 hours peeps have to do what you do.

I am a 20 and a half hour postie and I used to do what you do. Until I got wise.

Now I, (with the help of union rep) insist on d2ds preped in a 6th a day, and all I do is pick up my first bag and the rest is delivered to pouch boxes along the way for me to collect. Its suprising how much hassle is gone just with the door to door situation sorted.

They don't like it - and you feel guilty cos your mates pick up the extra work - but its not your job and the more you do the more they expect .

Pick up your bag and go - thats all you have time for.

I too am on a 20 hour contract but I have to finish off putting the mail into the frame, do re-directions & sort the packets into the frame. I don't mind too much as I claim the overtime. The only problem with this is if I have Specials that are at the end or near to the end of the delivery - I struggle to make the 1pm delivery time & have missed it a couple of times. I'm not too bothered about this as it's the management's fault for just wanting to keep employing part-time staff & not enough full timers.

Dont think any agreements on this exists as such.
But the 20 hour contract was based on the "Dutch housewife model" and was devised to get more women working for RM.
Drop the kids off at school, deliver the mail only & be finished to pick them up again.
Now the great idea was never put into practice as it was meant to be, because of not enough time for FT to prepare the duty or FT wanting expecting to finish early.
And 20 hour contract workers have steadily had more & more put onto them made worse by temp contracts ,& the exploitation that goes with that.
RM can ask you to do anything within reason in your 20 hours but they cannot force you to work over them or refuse to pay you any overtime you incur in performing your job.

Also if it's 4hrs a day,don't forget your 20mins break.

..... and if your extended duty takes you past 5hrs, then it's 30 mins break
