Depends whether you can afford the luxury of making the choice.
If i could afford to be part-time i would,but then if i could afford not to work at all that would probably be my favoured choice.

I am now on a 25 hour duty and have to say that taking home over £200 for a 25 hour week is good for me, Yes I would prefer to be on a 40 hour contract and the money that comes with it ( but I don't have that choice ) but I can do other things in the afternoons especially in the summer months and not be too tired to do them.

would I look for another job? No, I would not be able to find a job that pays the same wages unless I work a 40 hour week, so I will stick at being a part time postie ( well at least while I have the job ).

no one is made part-time from being full-time unless you asked for it.

I was made to go part time due to the clause that was in my contract.

yes it P1ssed be off big time when they first did it, they did it to 4 of us in my office, one has since been made back up to full time due to seniority.

I had been at my place of work for 50 weeks and was then told that on the start of my 52nd week I would be down to 25 hours.

Could'nt appeal, went to the union rep and he said there was nothing I could do about it.

sum good points ,the part timers who come in a couple hours later than us seem to have more zip about em ,,,maybe its cause they aint been bored sensless by the sortin ,,

I'm part time , 30 hours. Used to be full time but on tranferring offices could only get 30.

I would much prefer full time as the physical aspect (outside element) is still the same. The only thing I do not do is IPS.

Am just as tired.

I was offered buy down about 8 years ago and the first thing i asked was whether the delivery would be the same.
I told them i would sell them my delivery hours for £10k but if they wanted my indoor hours it would cost double that.
Only a fool would value the indoor element exactly the same as the outdoor.
It's physically less demanding,you have on-site facilities and it doesn't rain,snow,sleet,blow a gale indoors.
If i could manage on a part-time wage it wouldn't be with Royal Mail delivery only.

One of part timers at our DO does less days but the days she works are "full" days. Got to be better than 5 short days if you can get it!

3 day week 24 hours.Do a full day when I'm in so just means on the I.P.S from 6.30 and I love it,would'nt want to be a FT'er if they offered me it.

Some good answers in here, I guess it's a personal thing. I am part time, I've done full time when they need cover etc for a few weeks and never really enjoyed it.

I found I was much more tired at the end of the day, I also found it much more like a factory job with a manager constantly pressuring you to do more prep, cover other people's prep etc, just pressure for more more more. I often struggled to get out on time, with pressure to do D2D's and other things, finally I found the sorting work actually very boring and repetitive.

Now I will generally do whatever I can to avoid doing prep unless they really need me, which isn't that often with the way they are trying to squeeze everything. I'm happy to come in, help my partner do a bit at the end e.g. parcels, maybe a last mech or whatever, bag up and get the hell out of there!

I got made full time when we had a revision last year and its so much better,yes i have to do more work and come in early but my delivery is the same and sorting mail ain't exactly hard work just means getting out of bed earlier.

1 in 3 Saturdays off. Work one of my days off if I feel like. Got to be PT.

Nice work if you can get it. I started on a 6 month contract, then a 3 month, have just got my new one which starts on the 14th Nov......6 weeks to 29th Dec, Ooooh that nicely covers Xmas
