Hi, Completed my first round "solo" today. All went O.K as far as I can tell apart from it taking me sooooo long. Just wondered how long managers are prepared to put this down to being new before questioning my ability to do the job. Cheers

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

First day with me.
Started just before Christmas a few years ago,got back about an hour over went to claim OT was told OK this once but if late back again i would be retrained(never was)

The walk you are doing is designed for noobs. Every office has one. When the noob starts they put them on that walk. It is normally one of the worst walks in the office involving hills, gravel, long driveways and nutjobs that just want to chat with you, and then chat some more. If you don't quit within three months of being on that walk, you pass the test. Oh - you have to run round it to be finished on time, walking is to slow. The managers know this so therefore it is not an issue if you are an hour later (as long as you don't expect the O/T!!)KS wrote:Hi, Completed my first round "solo" today. A combination of things I guess. None of which will come as a great surprise to anyone who works for RM. Constantly being compared (unfavourably) with colleagues who started at the same time as me. I dare say they have been told the same thing, well the ones that are still left. Four of us on the same induction day, one remaining!!!! Says alot in the current climate. Divide and conquer and all that, make sure that there is no camaraderie between the newbies. Start times that see everyone else leaving just as I walk through the door therefore unable to establish any kind of social contact with colleagues.
Being informed that the walk I have been doing for the last 10 weeks isn't MINE and that it is now being lapsed and I am now a reserve. Not being shown these walks, just left to get on with it and then surprise, surprise unable to complete on time. Didn't mind working over but fed up with the constant critisism. They can't ALL be the easiest round in the office, every day cannot always be a LIGHT day.
Despite all this I actually enjoyed the job and to be fair the main reason for leaving was that i had previously been using a HCT and suddenly having to hump 16kg up and down the WORST walk was going to cripple me. Had this been my first weeks experience I was prepared to say that it was too physically demanding and would have walked away then.
Probably didn't help that I have a bit of a mouth on me and made my feelings known. DOM couldn't stand the sight of me either.
Being a postie, for even such a short time, has been enlightening.

Yeah, i seriously think they should be a bit clearer in the job description. Now don't laugh but I HONESTLY thought there would be just one bag at 16kg that would obviously get lighter, not that there would be another 5/6/7 after that one. Ahhh Bless!

so did i... you get used to it... suddenly it doesnt seem too heavy, and the walks dont seem that long.... you'll enjoy the bits you know are near the finish line... get your head phones in...
