Whats you Prediction of RM in 10 years time

In 10 years time .....

Will RM have walking posties Delivering to every door ...for the cost of a stamp...

Will local collection points be the norm and door letter deliveries cost extra...

Will letter volumes be half or even less than they are today...

Will there be a 50% increase or more of todays volumes in parcels and packets...

With a reported 25.000 plus shop closures expected by 2025, due to increased online sales RM may well become more of a parcel service...

The internet creating the use of increasing paperless bills and paperless information, it seems the future is bleak for letter deliveries to be a big profit market in 10 years time in the way it is run now.

Less daily deliveries means a reduction in posties required and proposed 5 day week even less required. The major USA delivery service reported its first ever loss at the end of last year. So the trend and outcome seems obvious and not in the UK alone...

With the internet being a major growth factor in most peoples lives it will cost many UK jobs in years to come. Shop closures and increased costs to those shops paying business council tax who will pay extra to meet the loss of council income of those shop closures.... creating more shop closures.... or even more reduced services and more jobs going...

The internet and technology has changed so much and will create less of a uk workforce needed and will shopping malls be needed or under pressure in years to come if there is 10% annual growth in buying with free delivery using the internet.... and of course the growth in home supermarket food deliveries saves petrol and reduces the need to go to the shops ...

In these times of financial hardship...the internet being often cheaper, holidays, food, and other purchases never used by many 15 years ago...is becoming a major growth and mini boom to online retailors and of course E-Bay and Amazon taking away millions of shop sales a day..... Amazon reported doing a million sales an hour running up to xmas last year.

So where does that leave RM..... When the Queen is replaced maybe stamps will done away with and the universal delivery service will be finished as we know it... it may come sooner...

Either way parcel and goods deliveries seem the future to deliver increasing online orders... more carriers will probably come and go as how good their service proves to be.... each generation uses technology of text and wifi and e-mails more, reducing paper use in those activities and the need to be delivered..... instant contact now being the way forward...

Letters just like daily newspapers becoming a thing of the past in their reduced annual use.... Royal Mail shedding the universal service would be the major change for decades....and 5 day week will be the start and cost many jobs..and more from then on....

So in 10 years time whats your RM prediction ...this has been mine....

imo rm are wrongly using the economic situation as a reason to predict future drop in mail

The mail volume was still decline but will be replaced with more leaflets getting £20 a week. We could end up delivering up to 15 leaflets a week. Packets will continue to increase.
And hopefully i'll be well gone from RM .

Eventually there will be 100,000 World Class Mail pillars and only 100 posties,the place will be spotless,there will be no accidents because 1,000 pillars will walk in front of each postie with a brush and some yellow tape ensuring a safe working environment.
One iSLM will sequence the mail for the whole country,it will obviously be based in London,rather than transport it by our own network the batch for each office will be stuffed in a jiffy bag and sent by DHL.
Managers will still be fat,overpaid and mostly irrelevant.
Billy Hayes will still be GS and will still forget to take his annual leave.

All DOs/callers offices will be situated within branches of Greggs, no attempt will be made to actually deliver mail,, all deliveries will consist of 739s directing the public to pick up all mail whilst the latest baked goods offers are printed on the reverse. Doms will be genetically engineered to consist of 3 orifi. One mouth for coffee and pasties, one anus to s**t on us from and the remainder will be an enormous **** to reflect their personalities and the term of endearment we refer to them by.

10 years from now

8 hour deliveries or rather Duties will be designed as outdoor only.
Delivery duties will be prepped at MCs/Super DOs by former FT delivery personnel who survived the DO cull/super mergers.

All SPDOs will have gone.

Delivery Units in town centers will have gone.

Delivery Offices will cover several Post Code Towns (for example HX, HD, WF).

The rise in e-fulfillment will have plateaued. Letters decline will be in slow reverse and will be back to 2012 levels. However D2Ds will have trippled but still won't be automated.

Letter deliveries will be 5 days a week but USO will be only 2 deliveries per week to each address.

2 in a Van will still be running but we will look on 2012 as the Halcyon days.

Recorded Delivery will have been replaced by a over the counter tracked (no signature but Geo-located) service.

Special Delivery will be a Next day by 5pm service.

Royal Mail will be providing a Drop Deposit service at local shops/Post Offices at no charge to customers but RM will pay a Unit price for provider (say around 50-75p per item taking into account 10 years inflation)

The CWU will have undergone a massive reorganization, or will have been subsumed by UNITE.

RM will have been sold off under a Public IPO, however rivals such as DHL, DataPost, TNT etc will have purchased at least 75% of the shares from the public. We would have got 10% of the shares as promised held in trust (not by the Union), but with various share issues the actual percentage in 10 years will be around 2-3% of their initial value.
