We’re continuing to make progress with transforming our business – with much more to come. Here’s a look at what we have achieved as we approach the half-way point in the financial year;

We have four new mail centres, which brings our total to 50, two more intelligent letter sorting machines and 43 refurbished older sorting machines, bringing the number of machine installations and refurbishments to 965.

Hugely important

This is hugely important because it means we can make our operation more efficient, safer and successful.

Ian Jones, programme director, Ops modernisation, said: ‘We are generating a good return on this investment with automation at a record high of 89% - 2% above target - enabling 77% of letters to be automatically sequenced to their delivery point.

‘We’ve also completed the centralisation of all print labelling into two facilities in Sheffield and Peterborough mail centres.’ There are now more than 685 fully modernised delivery offices - at least 67 ahead of plan - and we now have more than 9.165 shared vans. Over 75% of all delivery routes now use 47,718 PDAs.

'We have also started national roll-out of the Delivery to Neighbour project.

‘And hot on the heels of the successful official opening of the new Medway mail centre, the plant had its first World Class Mail audit last week,’ Ian added.

‘The plant achieved the highest ever score for their first audit, achieving 15 points.
'Congratulations to Keith Tomlinson, plant manager, and his team on this remarkable achievement. The multi-million pound investment in Medway sets a new benchmark for mail processing facilities across our operation. It is important that we build on this latest success and take the plant to a truly world class level,’ said Ian.

A new presenter joins RMTV
You’ll spot a new face joining the RMTV presenters in the coming weeks…Felicity Shaw.

She works in the enquiry office in Plymouth. We asked her a few questions about herself and her time with the business.

Tell us about your time at Royal Mail. What do you do?

Well, I have worked in processing and revenue protection and now I am in the enquiry office in Plymouth. The best bit so far has been working with RMTV.

I feel really privileged doing this. It’s exciting working for Royal Mail because it is moving forward. The highs are getting items to the customer. We go out of our way for them because they have spent their hard-earned wages on things, and we want to deliver them.

How would you describe yourself?

I try to make the most of everything. I have three children, and I work six days a week while my mother looks after them. I enjoy the job and get a lot of satisfaction from it. I just want to be the best I can and set a good example.

What do you think when you were asked to appear on RMTV?

I was so excited. It’s been everything and more than I expected it to be. I think the current RMTV presenters do a great job.

One of my major peeves is people not wearing them...........how f**king difficult is it to put it on??? Just remember that RM will have you over a barrel if you have the misfortune of having an accident.

Your doctor may say you don’t have to wear a seat belt for a medical reason. They’ll give you a ‘Certificate of Exemption from Compulsory Seat Belt Wearing’.

I think he probably has one of those in the cab.
