Private car users
Just heard today from our union rep that all these muppets that use their own car for delivery have to have courier cover for their insurance as business cover only covers them to their first delivery point. Is there in any truth in this?

It will be almost impossible to get cover for handling RM work in a private car. How can you assess the risk and value of the items being carried when they change daily. Phone up and try it.

As I understand it the RM bond was changed a few years ago to allow the car user to move the car along their delivery route.
You would need courier insurance if you are dropping off second wallets or doing packets from your car etc.
One of the main points of the BT2010 agreement was to remove private car use from delivery. It really is time they set a date in the near future and removed car use from units that haven't had a delivery methods revision. (And those that have)
I doubt if there is an office where their is any real control over the use of cars.
I doubt if the paperwork is up to date in any DO.
It is embarrassing that a national organization is relying on people using their cars to deliver the mail.
It makes a mockery of every statement about World Class Mail and H&S.
It is embarrassing that so many of our colleagues have embraced this madness.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

There are stories of posties being stopped by the police and cars being impounded etc.
If the police need to improve their figures, the postie is an easy target.
Driving without proper insurance is currently a bee in the bonnet (helmet?) of some plods.
But hey, if you can make 15 minutes it is probably worth it.

im pretty sure the old bill will pull you for driving around with a load of packets in the back of your van. What about security someone could you bash the window in and take all the goods.

All these cars used by Courior firms delivering packets and parcels for 50p each , I wonder if they are covered by insurance as well.
Half the time they are so crammed with packets you would be hard pressed to see out the vehicle

I have seen them, mostly its housewives storing them in a garage and delivering them from their cars, personally I think they are exploited as cheap labour with little legal redress if anything goes wrong, such as burglary, car breakdowns, tax and insurance.
