Should Royal Mail Vans Have First Aid Kits?

I cut myself this morning on my walk against a gate and had nothing to put on my cut only a p739 card till a little old Lady (bless her) came out and gave me a flannel and and a plaster she even offered me a couple of extra plasters in case it happens again.

When I got back to the office to put it in the accident book the managers was long gone so its tomorrow now but what frightens me is on Saturdays they go early as well and what if we need medical assistance who do we ring/tell? its alright saying drive to hospital but should our P & L vans not be kitted out with first aid kits?

Not one of ours has them.

so not only your managers leave early they have not checked the first aid kits in the vans,is there a first aid officer in the office then report it to him or her.also make sure you ask your guvnor to report the accident thats if he is there.

See your H&S rep as all ours carry a green box type first aid kid behind the seats.

Personally i cannot use plasters so i always used to carry a full self made posties first kit.

I thought it was a legal requirement to carry first aid stuff in works vehicles, could be wrong though . After our revision I asked our DOM if he had any plasters for the van because I take warfarin and to be fair to him he gave me a massive box of them because of the paper cuts I always seem to get off razor sharp d2ds .

We have a first aider but to be honest I would rather risk death than have him look after me, personal hygene is not high on his list of priorities .

Never seen a first aid kit in a van but if they're supposed to be there then I will ask, maybe FT can pull up the relevant agreement

I would imagine a cut of some sort is going to be the worst self medicating affliction on delivery which a couple of plasters in your pocket would suffice. I always carried a couple in my wallet. There used to be a requirement for wipes so you could clean your hands whilst out in case you had food outside or you happened to put your hand in something.

there you go jenny i have found you a new job and you get full-trainning. when your guvnor is back
in your office for his couple of hours for his conferance call tell him you want to be a first-aider which every office should have and it will fill up your duty time?.

Anyone stop to think how many bugs n germs on mail we all work with .I see a lot of workers eating fruit while they sort mail errr! .Find it best to do like dvbuk55 says and carry your own plasters and wipes. .
