time off for a funeral

have got a funeral next thurs at 1.30 (finishing time 2.30) not family just a good pal .the thing is i know the office is short staffed next week and the dim and me do not get on as i cut off most days .am i entitled to finish early about 12.30 not bothered about getting payed thanks in advance

I don't think you're 'entitled' to it, but you're not worried about the money so tell the DOM you're finishing two hours early. Give him the reason why and as much notice as you can......... should be okay

theres nothing official or legal unfortunately, its basically down to his goodwill and granting you special leave either paid or unpaid or allowing you to use annual leave, but unfortunately its down to his decision unless you can get a mate to swap days off that week

The only other options are a) go sick and have a few days off? b) chuck in a lieu day c) use their precious 'flexibility' and say that you will cut off, attend funeral and then recommence delivery afterwards - it DOES work both ways although they won't admit it d) pay colleague to finish round off

A former colleague died recently and the people who wanted to attend his funeral were allowed to cut off and attend but had to complete their duties after. As some one has said i suppose its down to your manager. Best to keep on their good side by starting early , never claiming overtime and doing everything you are told without question.

Just come in early then work until 12.45 then go to funeral and then finish your duty afterward probably 30-1hr work to do. Then rejoin funeral tea/sandwiches or whatever.

If anyone ask you could say you are using hour break for funeral.
