Holiday Calculation Rota Days Off

I am on a temp contract of a 22.5 hour week 9 day fortnight, so accepted that the holiday entitlement is pro rata, If I want to take two weeks off surely I only have to use 9 days holiday as the other days are already rota days off, a line manager is saying that the whole two weeks count as holiday time off. Any thoughts please on RM holiday entitlements ?

Annual leave entitlement is now based in hours - for example a person with a 39 hour contract with six weeks leave can take 234 hours (39*6) per year
in your case if your leave entitlement is 4.5 weeks then you can take 101.25 hours (22.5*4.5) per year

thats the point i make, that the hours are counting for the working days not the rota days off, otherwise you will lose half the entitlement on days you would normally be off anyway

Under your lino's deluded reasoning, you should be repaying wages every week against the four days off you get every fortnight when you are working.

If in doubt check with HR. In my experience most doms are too thick to understand holiday entitlement. The ones that do try and con you out of it.

Tried that HR only talk to managers, they wouldn't discuss it.

It beggars belief if you get 22 1/2 days holiday per year and you work a 9 day fortnight that means you already have 5 days off, 2 sundays and 3 Rota days but No Royal Mail say the whole week counts as holiday, you want your 9 days but they take 12 days holiday.

They dont count Rota days as leave every other point of the year

If rota days off are annual leave then the guys on the week off scheme get 18 weeks annual leave.

Quite strange as Working Time Directions state that

"Holiday Entitlement cannot be counted as weekly rest days, it is completely separate"

Which makes sense, you get paid 22.5 hours a week, you don't get paid for rota days off, so you are entitled to 22 and half days per year leave (which is paid leave) regardless your shift in your contract states 9 day fortnight.

I don't know exactly for Royal Mail (newbie) but in other jobs where my contract has been a 5 days over 7 day contract. A weeks holiday is just 5 days from your entitlement. This has been universal at every job I have had.

One job I only worked 2 days a week so It only cost me 2 days holiday to have a week off.

thats my point, for every 9 you take off they expect to give up 3 rota day, i dont think so !
