Explanation of allowances and supplements

Please can someone explain to me what the functional delivery supplement and shift allowances mean and equate to? I am contracted to 25 hours per week and am a postman with driving. Many thanks

In deliveries most shift allowances have gone as the start times have moved out of the qualifying times. However, basically if you work at certain times then you get certain allowances. If you are doing 25 hrs per week its extremely unlikely you will get a shift allowance as most are overnight.

The Delivery Supplement is a recognition of the "special circumstances" those working in the delivery function face on a daily basis, it is currently the highest functional supplement within Royal Mail letters. This is paid on a prorata basis - so depending on whether your unit is 39 or 40 hours standard FT working week then you'll get 25/39 or 25/40 of the current amount . I cant remember the exact figure but FT get around £21

Mine isn't. Maybe you get part of yours pensionable because one of the allowances it replaced was pensionable.

ours are split and it didnt put extra on my pension

I may be wrong but the part that came from ESA 1 and ESA 2 is pensionable and thats why its split into 2 - The reason why nothing extra went on your pension is because the amount from ESA/Del supplement should be the same.

Hey guys, I've just applied for a position and have an interview tomorrow.

Just trying to get some more information on the delivery supplement. The position I applied for is only 8 hours per week but it mentions:

"We also offer a Delivery Functional Supplement of £21.62 (pro -rata) plus overtime and shift allowance if applicable"

What does this mean and how does it affect me?

If you work in delivery you'll get about £4.50 a week Del Supp all to yourself on an 8 hr contract.

Hello all. I am currently working F/T in deliveries. I am looking to move to a role in Collections (11:30 am - 7:30pm) as a admin/key person/manager's assistant. What allowances will I get in this role e.g. Late worker Allowance?, PHG worker allowance? as it is more than just an OPG and I will be covering for the manager in his absence. Will I lose the Delivery suplement of £21 pw?
Any advice would be useful.

You should keep your delivery supplement providing the duty is still attached to a DO
You will not get any shift allowance
You will only get leadership allowance if there is no manager or other OPG in receipt of leadership allowance on site
