Notice for change of start times

I'm a reserve who starts at ~6:45 to do whatever duty I'm assigned to, but occaisionally i'm put on a hybrid duty which starts at 10:00 and finishes at 18:00. My question is simply are they allowed to do this without notice? The guy that does the duty has a month off at the moment and I am going to be down for it the whole period, and it's a little annoying as I lose the possibilities of doing any schedules as well as my afternoon activities.

And PS, it's even more frustrating to see plenty of other posties cover hybrids as a standard 6:45->2:30 duty instead of being made to do the collection too, different rules for different people and all that.

That what reserve do :( if you can come up with good reason you can't do it. ie childcare you could encourage a U Turn.

i understand in the contracts you need to be flexible (i.e. work other offices, possibly do some overtime) however how is it possible to get out of this kind of situation whereby your hours are totally changed? Isn't there 2 weeks reasonable notice? This happens a lot.
