working day off

over the next couple of weeks/months i might have the opportunity to work my day off,a bit of extra cash for xmas my question is. If my day off was a tuesday and i worked it and finished my duty say 45 mins earlier than my contracted time of 8 hours would i be paid for just the hours i worked 7 1/4 hours for eg, or would i be paid my full 8 hours .

This is one of those things that seems to vary from office to office. In my office you get the full day.

If he wants to earn a few quid he won't mind what duty they put him on will he?
In fact if it's overtime he's after he definitely won't want to be put on his own duty and shaft his floater,much better to be put on one that he doesn't know then he can take longer and earn a few extra,extra quids.
Or have i missed something?

A floater signs for a floating duty.
His duties are the 5 he covers.
What tends to happen is the floater is moved to "accomodate" the duty holder working his day off.
If you are the duty holder - you think this is brilliant.
If you are a floater, you feel like you are being treated like a reserve and you are being "shafted" - firstly by your colleague and then by management.
What should happen is whoever wants to work their day off should be the reserve. And if they don't like that they shouldn't work their day off.

As much chance as a flying unicorn, management will never mess with that carrot. Better to try get on a cover where the regulars don't do days off.

Well I'm a reserve and this week I'm working as a floater and one of the lads in the link has gone sick so I've done his round all week as the link have all worked their days off - so in effect I've been moved every day but stayed on the same round which is much easier than doing five different rounds in a week really - so I personally don't feel that I've been shafted!
But as I say I'm a reserve.

Work the hours your paid for....be paid for the hours you work, no more no less, easy answer.

What's happening to your floater?

you dont get a full shift for you,re day off at ours. if you want to come in, and are lucky enough to be asked, they,ll tell you to come in for 9 or half 9, so you,ll get maybe 5 or 6 and half hours at the most, and if you knock it back they wont ask you again,,,unless they,re desperate for cover

i cover the same 5 walks in my office each week, but i only ever tend to do two of them as the regular posties work their days off and won't come off their own walks, sometimes it works out for the better but most times i get shafted with a crappy long walk no one else wants :(
