Postmen Signing Recordeds

We were recently warned in our office about signing and delivering recorded items when unable to get a reply. This following a complaint. It isn't something I've ever done but I know some guys in the office do. I've just started a round where the previous guy did this as a matter of routine. A number of customers have requested that I do the same. I have refused but they generally look at me as though I'm some sort of unhelpful jobsworth. Is this a common practice in other offices? Surely to do this is fraud and therefore gross misconduct.

this is a bone of contention! is the customer going to back you up when they complain that the parcel is damaged or lost and you have signed for the delivery? they still have to pay for it because it has been signed for? i don't think so! do the job right or they will fire you!

Dont sign them ,
If they moan tell them you will lose your job if you signed them .

tell them they are welcome to put a formal complaint in, with regard to your refusal to sign for recordeds

It used to happen a lot under an old manager in my office, and when I went onto my duty I had the same problem. I said to them "They have just sacked someone for doing that so I can't at the moment, perhaps when the managers aren't so keen I might be able to", then never do it. It gets them off your back, you don't come across as a Jobsworth and eventually they get used to having to sign/collect them and never mention it again."

Dont do it ....Ever. One guy did this when some one wasnt in thinking He was saving them a trip down town.It was a letter that needed a response 8 days from receiving it.The customer was on holiday for 3 weeks.The sender saw they had signed for it and assumed they were ignoring it.S--- hit the fan!!!!!!

You might think you are doing them a favour... But when things go wrong nobody will support you, and you could be sacked on grounds of fraud. Always cover your back.

Loads of guys just fire them through without signing, they can then just shrug their shoulders if anything happens. My last P&l partner pulled the stickers off of many records so he could shove em through the letterboxes.
I have heard someone getting sacked for signing for a recorded, but it seems extremely rare.

Customers know when we do that..they aren't completely stupid.
Next time they go to the Post Office with a packet they think f**k it,why bother the extra expense,

I have been asked by the duty holder (me covering) to just put the Recordeds through. He was amazed when I said no.

I never do it and always P739. I normally bring a few back each day

With Ebay used so much some folks just love to say that they have not received an item. If you signed for it you are wide open

If you ever do it and I recommend you don't then sign it in your own name. If you sign the customers name then that is fraud and a criminal offense.

When i said job done i was being sarcastic.
Both the sender and the recipient are likely to know if we don't get a sig.
Neither are likely to feel inclined to continue to use a service that doesn't fulfill it's most basic criteria.
What i should have said was jobs done because they will be.
Well done for not joining in with the rush to close the business down.

I sign them for someone I know very well on my round but I asked them to send me a E Mail saying that they gave me permission and the two names I am signing for so that way hopefully I will be covered if any comebacks.
