Annual Leave Requests.
Has anyone worked previously for a company where you are left with no option but to carry over leave days to the following year because the company cannot facilitate all of your entitlement? Or is this just a RM 'thing'?

No I haven't. I've also never worked for a company where you have to book holiday 8 - 10 months in advance.
They take the profits, you take the blame
When they tell you there's no rise in pay
When they tell you there's no rise in pay

ditto, any place i've worked only asked for a minimum of two weeks notice - so they could get the overtime sign up sheet sortedSpeedmeister wrote:No I haven't. I've also never worked for a company where you have to book holiday 8 - 10 months in advance.

Re: Annual Leave Requests.
Has anyone ever worked for a company where halfway through the year it transpires there has been scant provision, if any, made for annual leave requests that may occur during the remaining 6 months?

Welcome to Royal Mail !
Probably the only company in the UK who employ managers who do not have a clue on how to manage !
Their failure to employ sufficient staff to cover the basic current daily workload needs are even beyond their capability.
Their failure to address delivery staffs holiday ENTITLEMENT is just another example of their incompetence and displays a total contempt towards an already overworked and overstressed staff. Their attitude is to lay THEIR problems back at the door of the DO staff - How dare you expect to be treated with some dignity and respect ? This is Royal Mails attitude !!
How much longer can we be expected to put up with this sort of treatment ? These are basic "staffing management" problems, being experienced throughout the business and should not be allowed to continue. Our CWU leaders need to take stock of this sort of behaviour and take the issue up at a national level, away from these incompetent local managers.

If Royal Mail cannot give you, your annual leave within the allotted time then they can be held in breach of contract.
Annual leave is part of your contract and just as you cannot decide to take time off work at a drop of a hat without problems
occurring neither can RM withold your annual leave so long as you dont leave it until the last minute.
The site gives you advice on what to do.

Re: Annual Leave Requests.
You can't if they say the day you want isn't available and how are you supposed to respond when that happens? Call whoever does the staffing a liar? No, of course not. You have to assume they are playing with a straight bat. So you're f****d basically. What I don't get is why available days/weeks are not printed out and displayed in a prominent place so everyone knows the score. This could be updated every time someone is granted leave. This would save on people filling out holiday request forms and going through the whole 'denial' process when it's not necessary. Just look at the print out. If it's available put a form in. If it's not...don't. Am I missing something here?ebbzie wrote:you can book single days, dont let them tell you differentdids620 wrote:has anyone ever worked for a firm where they entitle you to 4 weeks and 2 and a half days then tell you that you cant book single days?

Re: Annual Leave Requests.
We don't have leave request forms. If we want to book leave we go to the office, they bring the leave up on the computer infront of us and you can see if what you want is available or if it is fully booked. If it is fully booked you can see who has booked it so you can try and swap with them if you want.S6 Stroller wrote: You can't if they say the day you want isn't available and how are you supposed to respond when that happens? Re: Annual Leave Requests.
Now they have to try and factor in how many drivers are off.
Then they have to try and have spare bodies if the sector is short.
They don't really have a clue what they are doing.
The intellectual pigmies prefer just to deny all leave in the hope they will have enough staff.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Who documents what leave you have asked for and who agreed you could take it? Recipe for disaster.PhilthyPhil wrote:We don't have leave request forms. Re: Annual Leave Requests.
I hate the system. I prefer long weekends than week off Monday to Sunday as it don't work for me. I want the power to book my holiday online when I want it and need it, so Royal Mail manager can't block. I would prefer 2 X 1 week off and 4 long weekends if I desire it.
