Neighbours

Post by Lazycarton »

.....everybody needs good neighbours, so the song goes :Very Happy

In the past few months there have been a few occasions when the wrong letter has been posted through the wrong door and was intended for a neighbour (it could be me or it could be my stand-in). This has happened to me a few times and I just take it round. The "wrong" mail is either left in the letterbox for me to deliver correctly (which I accept is how it should be) or a curt note left with it.

What is exercising my mind is, are they just lazy, want to make a point or either don't like - or have never spoken to their neighbour? Seems a bit odd to me. This raises questions over the new "neighbour" parcel directive. If we are the one's to "designate" the neighbour to take a parcel, should WE be designating if the customer cannot/doesn't want to/doesn't like/can't be arsed to take a letter to their neighbour?

yes mate. Delivering to a neighbour is up to you. So do what nearly everyone else does and just 739 as normal , if anyone questions why just say you dont know if the neighbours like each other

What I don't get is the "designated" neighbour bit. If the customer doesn't "designate" then......?

I delivered a parcel today, knocked on the door, no answer, was 3/4 way through writing out card when the upstairs window opened and a bleary eyed naked fella popped his head out. He was a Night shift worker apparently and wasnt best pleased that i had woken him up.

Imagine how pissed he would have been if i had woken him up to deliver some random's parcel to his address :evil/mad
No, i shall be continuing to work as normal (not in, not getting)

I agree with the comments posted, but my problem is with "designated". Is it me?

The OFFICIAL line is if the original recipient, or the neighbour do not wish to take part in the scheme then they have to opt out.

Me personally I have, and will continue to do so, used my common sense and judgement - after all the "blurb" gives me the final decision as too whether to try the neighbours or not, and I know my customers best.

Ok, so it seems the best thing to do is use discretion. I still find it very odd that if I do leave it with a neighbour that the customer will get a card saying that it has been left with their "designated" neighbour, when they have clearly not had anything to do with the decision. Very strange IMO.

Had those new style cards in operation for over a month... Yet we have not been officially trained/informed by management that it is ok to leave stuff with neighbours. No guesses for what I do, given the last official instruction on packets by management was answer at addressed door or P739. :whistle
