One minute sorting test

At our mail centre the managers are starting to test us for one minutes sorting on the IPS.

I failed my test but the manager only told me what the expected speed is until after my test (25 a minute). Shouldn't i have know what the expected speed is before i started my test?

The test seems a total waste of time as i now have learned it isn't a test to see if you know the sorting or not! Just what is the point of that!

You failed the first time but now you know what is expected from the test and hopefully you won't fail again.

As far as i am concerned the minute test is flawed and what i mean by that is you work hard for a minute to try and reach the target of 25, then revert back to your normal pace of say 20 a minute. There is nothing wrong with prepping in around 20 a minute because 1) your not making as many mistakes as you would if you were rushing 2) If you kept a pace of 25 a minute for a couple of hours fatigue would certainly kick in as opposed to the 20 a minute which i would aim for.

The minute test will soon banish and there is just something else just round the corner that royal mail have up their sleeves. Its called the "Observation test" basically managers with stop watches, clip boards watching you for a good 5 minutes without you knowing about it. Just don't take a sip on your coffee or you could fail

Sometimes, I wish they would do that here. Don't get me wrong I don't mind people talking at all its good and helps when the job your doing is repetitve and boring. But what I do hate is those people who can't seem to talk at the same time, apparently they are incapable of continuing to work at the same time as espousing their views, or they feel its absolutely necessary to turn to the person they are in conversation with, or even walk to them it they are at the other end.

I am not the only one, occasionally a call goes out from everyone else "Talk and Sort" not "Talk or Sort".

The IPS prep times should be clearly displayed in the work area.
Our area has gone for 1 minute test time minus 10%.
But their maths is a bit wonky and the expected prep rate resembles very very closely the minute test rate.

Gotta hand it to them though, whoever is in charge of those stickers is a dam good shot.

Because then we would complain about managers doing our work.
If the managers don't have enough of their own work to do, I'll be buggered if I want them doing mine.

i only did this once, it proves nothing, what about accuracy and how well you know your frame, its stupid.

we currently getting tested on ips , pkts , manual mail into frame
ips tests done with frames full of mail
manual mail (mostly flats ) done on delvery rm 2000 frames which are full of seq mail and d2d
pointed it out to lm before comencing test it wasnt fair or right to sort into
i managed 13

I believe I have been a victim of this type of test you speak of. First I knew that I had been tested was my lino getting me in the office demanding to know why I was slower than the last test I had. As it happens I had a good excuse, as the cut off from the previous day was still in the frame and that slowed my sorting rate. They gave no indication that I was to be tested, but as it turns out they based the amount of work for that day (A Monday) on the figures that came into the office. So despite not actually counting my work and not informing me of the test, I had to sign off something as if it was a full test. They really are taking the piss now!
