Not always but it can easily be.


13 GROSS MISCONDUCT
Some types of behaviour are so serious and so unacceptable, if proved, as to warrant dismissal without notice (summary dismissal) or pay in lieu of notice. It is not possible to construct a definitive list of what constitutes gross misconduct, and in any event all cases will be dealt with on their merits. Strong possibility - even with a clean record. Although with press/local people pressure some have survived dismissal but have been moved to another office/duty.

the guys argument was he didn't know about not being allowed to have mail in the front of the van due to lack of training, however the engine was left running with the keys in for a short period of time. Whats his best approach? Is it up to the DOM or area manager , do they need to follow a certain protocol after being alerted by the IB?

they looking for any way to get rid of full time posties and hes done that. can he be sacked, can be. more likley given a 2 year

My opinion - the mail in the front of the van although breaching security rules is not what will hang him. Its leaving the keys in the Van and the engine running, that is going against even the most basic security procedures.

It could be the DOM it depends on his Managerial level.

Best course if he has been caught bang to rights is to confess to making a stupid mistake and hope that's enough. I doubt it though, I think he probably has to accept that dismissal is a strong possibility.

Had it not been the IB he would have had a better chance of it being ignored - however the report goes direct to the SOM and no way is any manager going to sweep it under the carpet.

I couldn't say there are a lot of variables to be considered.

In my office we have had both scenarios, 1 sacked and two not - one more serious really IMHO but got away with it - you pays your money and takes your chance................the problem is the IB and how serious they take their role in this day and age where rules are broken on a daily basis.

Po make there own rules up , depends who you are .We were at a teamtalk and one of the topics was security .We were told to lock our vans etc AT ALL TIMES EVERYTIME YOU LEFT YOUR VEHICLE ,so i asked so if im on a rural and i come to a farmyard and the house is 20yrds away do i need to lock my van , the typical answer was use your common sense
