Dropping packets with neighbours! What about the abuse?
It's now been officially confirmed withe Daily Mail online today that as from tomorrow we can leave packets with neighbours so what about the abuse we are going to get? Say we have to go next door or next door but one on a Saturday morning and wake up a customer to take in next doors packet while the person who originally ordered it are still in bed, well the neighbour is going to abuse the postie for knocking that hour waking them up, we take enough crap without more to come, we'll I'm sticking o the P739 cards. It's only to take the workload off the PHGs, you know what will come next? We can't take packets back to the office unless the customer has a sticker on their door. Maybe we should drop the lot at a local corner shop and have done!

RM are leaving themselves wide open on this one(as are all posties too)....expect lots of compensation claims from unscrupulous people who will deny they received their packets from their neighbours (who might be in on this scam)...postie faces the sack??Scam merchants claim compo(as well as getting their packets)....?RM forks out money they can ill afford!

I think the first thing they should do is drop recorded/signed for letters from the scheme pretty sharpish.
These could include all kinds of personal stuff from medical records/information and social work assesments to lawyers letters involving criminal cases or even divorce papers....
That is a disaster waiting to happen,i would hope no postie is stupid enough to leave a recorded delivery letter with a neighbour...but.

Agreed mate...whoever came up with this idea needs to be put in a very large cardboard box and handed over to his or her neighbour!

Didn't one thingy (a LTB maybe?) state that it's still up to the OPG whether they deliver to a neighbour or not. So that's basically RM shifting the blame onto the postie. "You can leave the packets with a neighbour, but it's up to you if you do or not".
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

If a postie drops off a packet at a neighbour for them to sign and they sign the pda and take it in then a dog mauls the packet in bits in that house who is responsible? A Neighbour dispute springs to mind then...

Far better to sign for it yourself and deliver it to the correct address.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's a funny one that Teefer because although it states..TeeferTiger wrote:Didn't one thingy (a LTB maybe?) state that it's still up to the OPG whether they deliver to a neighbour or not. Delivery OPG’s have the sole responsibility to decide if, when, and where, it is appropriate to deliver to a neighbour.
It also states...
Any complaints arising as a consequence of the delivery OPG’s decision will be brought to the attention of the individual and CWU rep to find a mutually acceptable solution.
So it's up to us...unless the customer complains then a mutually acceptable solution has to be found which i would imagine means an acceptable solution for the customer otherwise they'll just keep complaining so in reality it's up to us...unless the customer says otherwise.

Precisely, daft innit. It's like the bad weather thing- you're "expected" to go out whatever the weather, but if you do and slip etc, it's your fault for going out. RM policy at its best methinks!fishtank wrote:It's a funny one that Teefer because although it states..TeeferTiger wrote:Didn't one thingy (a LTB maybe?) state that it's still up to the OPG whether they deliver to a neighbour or not. Re: Dropping packets with neighbours! What about the abuse?
I would have thought if a duty holder knows a neighbour would take in a packet its fine.
Other than that its not a wise move IMO
So same as before.
As a reserve there will be very few instances for me to leave a packet with a neighbour as i won't know the rounds well enough
