What the difference is between abscences and days with regards to sickness and stages?

For instance...

4 abscences or 14 days...

An abscence counts the total number of days, ie two periods of sickness both of 4 days would be counted as 2 abscences but 8 days.

Absence = is each period of sickness it could be 1 day or 365 (or more) days as long as there is no gap its one absence.

Days is the accumulating total of days of each period of sickness. For example

1st Absence 4 days - 2nd Absence 1 - Day 3rd Absence 6 days = 3 absences and 11 days (no stage)

however be careful you can be caught easily

1st - 5 days 2nd - 4 days 3rd - 5 Days = 3 Absences but 14 days = so stage 1 would be issued as it would if you only had 4 single day absences.

and remember Sundays are counted aswell unless you ring them up and tell them you will be in on the Monday.

No it isn't.
One absence of 14 days will trigger a stage 1,one absence of one day won't
Two absences of 7 days will trigger a stage 1,two absences of 1 day won't.
Three absences of 5 days will trigger a stage 1,three absences of 1 day won't.
All sick absence during your entire employment will be considered at stage 3.
Those that think they are playing the system usually screw up at some point and end up looking stupid.
The end result from taking the piss with sick absence will be the withdrawal of pay for the first three days,an idea RM have already considered...and then it will be the union's fault of course.

It is written down but as you say its confusing. However here goes;

1st year of Employment/Trialists

No sick pay at all except SSP.

After 1st Year

On a rolling and accumulating 4 year basis, and in most but not all cases - 6 months Full Pay - 6 Months Half Pay.

Any sickness in the previous 4 years will have an effect if you go long term sick. For instance if you play the system and take 3 x 13 days sick then your full pay will be 6 months less 39 days. It of course also means that half pay after 6 months will also start 39 days earlier than the 1st day of your sickness.
