Using non-RM boots on delivery.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to provide your own footwear and then claim some cash back? I am a vegan and since Royal Mail have never provided any outdoor boots that are non-leather I have always bought my own and then claimed £30 back. However our new DOM has been trying to get me the cash and he says it keeps getting refused. Has the policy changed (as I believe it was also an option for people with medical reasons to provide their own footwear) or is it that he's just not going through the correct procedure? Any links or similar tales would be very helpful.

you need to provide a doctors letter to say why you cannot wear RM footwear. Don't think being vegan will count I am afraid

Yes doctors note and receipt for the footwear, mine was on my wages the following week.

Hmmmm...so even though I have a strong ethical reason for not wanting to wear the boots, you say that I should be made to provide my own out of my paltry wages? Have you seen the price on non-leather work boots?! I'm out of pocket each time anyway!!! Maybe there's a way to claim it back as a tax break instead or, failing that, I could convert to Jainism and then take RM on for religious discrimination? :)
Seriously tho', it was never a problem before so I think you may be wrong there. I'm pretty sure there are other examples of ethical issues that RM have had to comply with in the past.
