Last weeks d2d, where do I stand?
Right... I was on annual leave last week. I have come in for an afternoon sa today to find half my frame full of last week d2ds. I have been told that they were thrown off by a covering manager.
Where do I stand? Am I expected to deliver last weeks work as the people who covered my walk last week couldn't be bothered?
Any help/advice would be great! I'm fuming!

if your manager tells you to then yes you are expected to deliver them, however you dont need to work over your time if you dont want to and should follow the correct cutting of procedure, tovadee wrote:Right... i would also raise the issue with your union rep so that the matter is raised properly and actions put in place to ensure that the manager doesnt allow this to happen again

I would also check to see if any of the D2D are no longer valid if they are out of date.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The staff who cover your duty while on day off or annual leave are in a great position as they just leave it to the duty holder, they hop from frame to frame on a daily basis, they leave your sign offs for you they leave your frame a right mess and they get away with it, happens in our office all the time, we are lucky if they do the D2D.WHITEANT wrote:Iwould want to know why they wernt delivered last week simple
When we are privatised there is a possibility we might do a Mon - Fri and a skeleton staff on Sat, this will mean lots of posties out of a job and they will want you to go on strike for them
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers

thats for your manager to worry about, no point you falling out with a colleague about it, end of day your only working your paid shift so doesnt really matter if your delivering yesterdays d2d or mail or packets, work your hours and dont worry about it, gives you good evidence for cutting off as your doing more than just todays work.WHITEANT wrote:Iwould want to know why they wernt delivered last week simple

Follow cut-off procedure and think of this in a positive light, a manager has filled frame slots with D2D before you have thrown in tomorrow's sequenced... The time it will take to now throw in the sequenced and then the "manual" will take even more prep time than normal, so you can cut off even more.

Re: Last weeks d2d, where do I stand?
I have replied to a similar thread on packets being left...The typical response is do what the manager says but work to your time - and cut off if needed.
I am sorry I don't think it is not as simple as that. Someone not doing the job properly might end up affecting you and possibly getting you in trouble or causing you undue stress.
The thing is you just feel cheated and hard done by if you have to do D2Ds that was left when you were in holiday or on your day off.
Cutting off might not even be possible if for whatever reason you can complete the task within your contracted hours or perhaps the issue might take you about 10 minutes over or you are a fast postman who can finish ahead of time compared to the average. Will that be worth cutting off?
I just find the whole thing troublesome, sometimes, cut-offs/packets/d2d etc left behind either by cover, manager or someone from another office (like I said b4, it happens to me at least 2ce or more a week). What it does is, it puts one on a collision course with management (or others) and one might come out of it in a bad shape or at least be stressed or bothered with arguments.

What are you going to do..stamp your feet and have a tantrum?chrisj wrote:The thing is you just feel cheated and hard done by if you have to do D2Ds that was left when you were in holiday or on your day off.
This is the grown up world, feeling cheated and hard done by is playground stuff, people s**t on you, things don't get done that should get done and adults get on with that by making sure that even if they have to clean up someone else's mess it will only be within their contracted hours or on overtime if they want it.
You go in,make sure management are aware of the situation and possible consequences and then you let them manage...what happens to the tosser that left the D2D's is nothing to do with you.
If that means taking all of last weeks D2D,packets and mail...so what, finishing time is still finishing time.
If you're frightened of confrontation with management explain the situation to your rep and he/she will deal with it with you.
If you're pissed off because you won't get the flyer or the easy day you thought you would...get used to it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Last weeks d2d, where do I stand?
it is not about being frightened of confrontation. It is having to drone on about the same kind of things week in week out; even with management and union awareness. I don't do tantrums but just bangs on and on and on. At least, I don't report people for not doing d2d like some do in my office.
I don't understand why some postmen want to support others that s**t on other posties. Not wanting to get colleagues in trouble is one thing but people taking the piss and getting others in a mess is not on.
I believe we have a lot of posties that get themselves into trouble and then expect others and the Union to support them afterwards
For you, fishtank, you make thing it is OK and it is a grown-up world, then the same applies if people lose their jobs for being incompetent on a regular basis. I get bothered by it because I will never do it to another postman but I am not the worst affected in my office.
The situation is so stressful for one of my colleagues that he is showing signs of losing it and he is now off sick - no support whatsoever; because of the sort of attitude that is being encouraged.
However, taking a a quick poll from the established staff and the more militant ones, they simply say they will tell the manager to stuff it or claim OT for doing work left behind even they do no go over.
I don't want to get into a tit-for-tat convo with you Fishtank or Postman - we can agree to disagree without posting awkward comments - right expression fail me, for now.
These things affect me but I make sure I get paid for it - but that works well for me cos I am very flexible. *It is ironic when people say that we should let management manage - but when they start to do their job more fairly some start to groan because they lose their privileges and what they have always got away with.
Maybe, we can take a poll about how people will deal with the issue?

Personally i'd not do them because its the managers fault they were not done. D2DS are weekly not fortnightly. And what is he going to sack you for? Its his fault not yours.
Isn't there an agreement for 1/6 per day.
So can postman leave d2ds for 2weeks before delivering...yes/no.

Come to think of it... I should have just laughed off fishtank's comment - 'he cannot be serious'... As if he will happily do work that has been left over by others; and feel absolutely content to finish 30 or so minutes later, as long as it is within his contractual time.
I feel for and stand up for the OP - not the work shirkers and crafty managers - simple!

Did i say "happily" or mention being "contented"?chrisj wrote:As if he will happily do work that has been left over by others; and feel absolutely content to finish 30 or so minutes later, as long as it is within his contractual time.![]()

Would i refuse to do work proper to my grade that i am trained to do inside my contracted hours?
No...that would be taking a stupid and pointless risk with my employment security.
How would you defend yourself at an Employment Tribunal?
I was asked to prep and deliver extra D2D and i refused because someone else should have.
Were you trained to do this work?....yes.
Were you forced to work outside your contracted hours against your wishes?....no.
Should we phone you a taxi now?
As for the other guy if Royal Mail want to do it by the book they conduct him for not doing last week's D2D and they would conduct you for refusing to do them this week.
That would make things better.....yes/no?
