Career Break

Don't come on here very often but was wondering if anybody out there can shed any light on Career breaks.

I am currently off on a career break since the start of the year. I asked if I could extend it by another year and was told no. No reasons were given, just told in a letter that I need to be back in work at the start of the year. Unfortunately for me there has been a change of Manager in my office and was told by the previous manager that there would be no problem if I wished to extend my career break and in fact the previous manager said that as I was on a career break already that as long as I gave him 3 months notice then he told me that they/Royal mail can't refuse to extend your career break and that I can take anything up to a maximum of 3 years.
Basically my question is.......

As I'm on a career break already, can my manager make me come back after a year even if I give 3 months notice?

I'm guessing he now probably can but my previous manager said otherwise so if anybody know's the facts on this then please let me know as it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Document says you can extend it.
According to that your contact point would be Senior/Area Personnel Manager not your D.O. manager so it looks like the decision isn't his to make.

Your quite right fishtank and my manager according to letter he's given me says he has contacted the area manager and that it was declined but never given reason why. The truth of the matter is that the now current manager and me have have some bad history!! This new manager and I worked in my previous office together where he had a managerial role and believe me we did not get on. Just sods law that 2 years later this manager follows me to my new office. I know he would love nothing more than to try and piss me off so no surprise really when my request for my career break to be extended is turned down! Strange really considering my previous manager was all for it and the fact that I'm a full timer and as you probably well now that they love to make savings so can't see why its in his interests to want me back but hey like I say there's bad history so I'm guessing that's why. I'm hoping that when I phone my previous manager on Monday that he will back me up that I was told I could have 3 years so my problem should be resolved but we will wait and see.

I definitely looking to take advantage of this within the next 3 years. Take a year out and travel and still have a job to return too. Great deal.
