so i'm not really refusing to walk, just that i havent been provided with any correct footwear so i cannot complete the task.

Royal Mail footwear for delivery OPG’s is not currently classified as “Personal Protective Equipment”. Royal Mail have been in discussion with the CWU for several years over this matter and discussions continue.

Even though Royal Mail footwear is not classified as “Personal Protective Equipment”, it doesn’t mean that sub standard footwear should be worn. My view is that Royal Mail footwear should be worn by all delivery OPG’s as part of our uniform standard. The only exception is when a delivery OPG is not able to wear Royal Mail footwear for medical reasons and is able to produce a GP’s letter as evidence.

So,while you could kick up a stink that you haven't any RM shoes,refusing to do a walk because of it is slightly dodgy.
Get your manager to chase it up.

You are expected to turn up for work in a pair of shoes that are suitable for walking,in exactly the same way that you are expected to turn up wearing a suitable pair of trousers.
Royal Mail supply uniform but they can't magic it out of nowhere instantly,it doesn't mean you can refuse to do your job.
New starts don't get handed a pair of boots the minute they walk in the door.

and what if my shoes are so badly worn, that repeated requests for new shoes are ignored, until i cant wear the original shoes...

If repeated requests for shoes are actually being ignored chase it up with your H&S rep..ASR if you don't have a local one.
Also try to order them yourself using the number on your pay slip and if they ask for management authorisation explain the situation and give them your manager's number/email.

Same thing happened to me. I went off sick until they got me some new ones. After waiting several months for new shoes they magically turned up after a few days. Strangely I never had a back to work interview.

I havent asked why, but fully understand that things can get forgotten. I will however make sure that i double check item has been ordered in future.

I would buy your own and give the receipt to your manager, up to 30 pounds. You'll get a shoe that doesn't fall apart or cause crippling pain, I've not had a pair of shoes from rm that feel comfortable. I've now got plantar fasciitis because of those cats.
