1. im on permanent part time contract , 5 days a week with a "rotating" day off. Now for the past 3 weeks i keep getting a tuesday off, which is the lightest day of the week. I told the manager i wasnt happy and requested another day, he said he cant and they can give what ever day they want to me? is this true?
2. Christmas is coming up and everyone knows it gets heavy, now im thinking about working till my time some days, but i hear the main manager is saying stuff like " you will need me one day" etc, and putting pressure on people to take all the mail. Do i need to worry about any consequences? What can they actually do?

Re: Few questions .
The problem that could arrise too if you get every tuesday as your day off is the number of hours you work every week will be higher than the number you are paid for as we all know tuesday is a shorter day in most offices. Keep a record of that and, maybe come saturday, ask for the time back. If he mentionned flexibility, you should get that time back within that week, part of the agreement. And, no, you don't have to go over your time at Christmas. It is up to your manager to put in place a plan to deal with the extra workload. He is paid to manage and you are not.

Re: Few questions .
I am also on a 25 hour 5 day over 6 contract.
My DIM will often ask me if I can move my day off, if I feel it is worth my while, change Tues off for a Weds etc then I will do so, if not then I just say no and leave it at that.
because he knows that if he does swap my day off for a different one and I don't agree then I will never swap my day off again to help him out. however I am on my own duty ( you have not said if you are or not ).
all DIM's will bring out the " you will need me one day " line, but in truth they need you more than you need them, in the run up to xmas I will tell my DIM like last year that I will come in at a set time and will complete the walk as long as he agrees to pay for all the hours I do, if not I will only be working my time and he will have to sort it out for himself, He came round to my way of thinking after 2 days lol.
Flexability does not exist, it is down to your DIM to give you enough work for the day you are working, if he does not and you go home then that is his loss, not yours, you don't have to give back any hours or minutes that you have worked under your time.

Re: Few questions .
If full time members of staff are still getting their set days off, put in a grievance due to discrimination against a part-time worker.
They are coming to take us away

Re: Few questions .
thanks for the replys, yes full timers do get a rotating week with 1 sat off every 4 weeks (mon, tue, wed, sat). This week he had me down at tuesday off, monday morning as i was on my way to work he rang saying ive swapped your day off to monday without any warning and was told to go home? which really took the mick, he said to me " i'll sort you out next week , ill give you that thursday you wanted" so then i didnt mind much. I checked the rotar for next week today and guess what another tuesday off. Its really starting to wind me up , i really dont want to rock the boat and cause a arguement as i was under the impression they could terminate a part time contract at any point?

He's just pushing you to see how much he can take advantage - they do it with all the newbies. Just see your rep and take it from there. They won't terminate you because you were being treated unfairly - get the union involved, bang a grievance in, say the victimisation (use that word) is getting you down and you'll be getting a rotating day off in no time.

Re: Few questions .
There is absolutely no way on this earth that I would let my line manager or DOM or anyone tell me I'm not having my rotating day off!
Working over your time to complete your round on the other hand, I would do it most times. End of the day, he is right in a way, you will need him at some point, it's not great management but I would say if you want the crappest round and the hardest time then say no to everything.
I would only not go over if I had some sort of specific reason, I have never done it (don't have kids) but know that some people need to ppcik their kids up and that's a fair enough reason. We go over maybe once every couple of weeks on a Wednesday but it's not often enough to get worked up about, if we were going over 3 times a week then I might start kicking off.
