Part of fighting is about having the public fighting with us, as it's always important to have public opinion with us. The problem with the leaders we have now, is that they are controlled by so much legal tape that was put in place by previous governments and carried on with more recent government.
Dont forget, it was not too long ago members went against the union leaders with the pay deal some years ago, and they had egg on there face.
Personally, i think the leaders we have Hayes, Ward are doing a decent job, although they need to do a much better job informing the public about the real reasons we are in dispute with our owners and present Royal Mail chairman and his henchmen, just my opinion on things.

It would be better to have the public on our side and I'm sure they would be if they knew the truth about the dispute.
But the Goverment has put pressure on the media for many years now to downplay any industrial action as their line is that there is no 'class war' anymore. I think that Dave and Billy have probably done their best to get our case across.
But at the end of the day it is not public opinion that will resolve this dispute, but our action.

Hi Baldrick,
I think your right in part, action is a big part of winning, but so is public opinion as it's added pressure on the government.
I wasn't knocking Dave or Billy, especially as i sit on a National CWU Advisory Committee, and briefly saw Dave Ward Friday, just gone.
I know that down here in Portsmouth, the CWU could be justified 100% but the local papers would still scream we are wrong out of order to stike.

Re: TIME FOR A NEW POSTAL UNION
There is another postal union, and some of us on here are members of it as well as the CWU. The fact is, I can't see 130,000 people all leaving the CWU any time soon (despite stories carried by direputable management web sites about 19,000 missing members) so for the time being we're stuck with it. Any other union, it doesn't really matter which one, trying to get a foothold in RM will have to fight on two fronts. The CWU leadership aren't just going to go away so we have to fight them, and of course, the management, because they like dealing with the CWU. Management know the CWU well and they know the leadership won't put up much of a fight over anything (unlike the rank and file). It's a cozy relationship for the most part. They know they won't want to upset the Labour Party either. The leadership would rather risk alienating the membership than do that which is exactly what we're seeing now. So, for the time being, we're stuck with the stooge at the top. At least a growing number of CWU members are seeing that these experts at the top don't always know best, and that's not a bad thing.marky wrote:HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO LET HAYES AND CO, CARRY ON RUNNING THIS UNION INTO THE GROUND, ROYAL MAIL TRY AND DO WHAT THEY WANT BECAUSE OF HAYES, THEY KNOW HES A JOKE !!!! Have you read what you posted? "Legal Tape by blah and by more recent governments" - which this Union Leadership are supporting. The reason the CWU lost the last vote was for the same reason they stand to lose this battle - lack of leadership and lack of information. What exactly, from a personal point of view, makes you think these two are doing a good job other than the fact that you are on the National Advisory Committee?t-c wrote:Part of fighting is about having the public fighting with us, as it's always important to have public opinion with us. What certain people are forgetting here is, WE are the union. I agree ward and hayes have dropped the ball but, as we showed last time, we can grind this company to a halt. Remember the CWU went to RM at the end of last year and asked for talks to commence on this years pay increase. RM came back telling the union 'what pay increase'? We wasn't getting one initially. Then RM submitted a full and final offer containing 22 strings to the union, in return for 2.5%. Because of the strength of OUR union, the business has now reached it's 6th full and final offer. Understandably it sucks and as i've posted elsewhere, it was mainly down to one idiot. Adam Crozier.
Because crozier is on a one man mission to break the CWU the talks broke down. Believe me, they were going ok until the last few hours, when the latest full and final offer was slammed on the table.
Now is NOT the time to stop supporting the unions actions. As we enter the busiest period of the year, the business will grind to a halt even quicker. For those people who are wavering, ask your unit rep for a copy of the final offer. Once read, the question you should ask yourself is not, ''Can i afford to strike?'', but, ''CAN I AFFORD NOT TO''. Once the 2 strikes are over and the fuctional strikes kick in, the business will be twitching more than a tourettes sufferer. Pressure mounts on Dozier and he will leave this business a failure, just as he did the F.A :cfo
