I cannot help wondering, if the debarcle that is park & loop, is somehow linked to privitisation, the mess that it has left offices in, up and down the country, with work being left in daily, packets not being delivered for days, the service being run down so that when they choose to privitise royal mail, the public will be so fed up with us they will readily accept it, it has happened before!!!!

It's actually the opposite.
Modernisation,State Aid and removing the pension deficit were all supposed to make us look as attractive as possible to any potential buyer or ensure a decent price if we are floated.
This particular Park&Loop malarky has been on the cards since before 2008 which makes it all the more embarrassing just how badly it's been introduced.
Hooper said in 2008 that it was unlikely that this squad of piss poor managers could pull off a modernisation project like this.
I don't think even he expected such a monumental cock up.
I wouldn't invest my savings in this company...would you?

The only member of the board with the contacts and ability to bring that kind of investment to the table is the invisible man himself Donald Brydon.
I doubt he could be arsed with the hassle.

I think you are relying on there being too many thought processes going on to come up with that plan . Certainly our long term stratagy in our office consists of getting bodies out the door before 9am tomorrow with or with out mail/packets/d2d's

I have thus far seen no evidence to suggest that management are aware of the existence of the fabled 'tomorrow'.

The ongoing modernisation program is clearly not working. Planners are pushing on with revisions that are wrecking the quality of service in virtually every office they touch. Now this will probably render us so unattractive to investors that even the private equity sharks will be put off and convince the public that state owned post isn't worth saving.
So who will buy us? Management buyout? I think we will be in such a state that the current board will be at the helm of a privatised company owned mainly by pension funds who are after a longterm payout. Then the universal service will be under pressure and the only way we will be able to deliver on Saturdays is if we have a juicy subsidy from the Government. British Rail ring any bells?

Which ever way you look at it it's turning into a bloody shambles.

Don't forget the asset strippers they will see Royal Mail as a golden goose no matter what state the organisation is in. They will see the value of the land, buildings, machinery and equipment and nothing else. As soon as land prices start rising and a profit is possible then these vultures will swoop and cut Royal Mail up piece by piece, and even with the promised 10% of shares going to employees, beyond campaigning and industrial action we won't have much effect.

Mind you, this scenario does open a possibility to franchising duties and offices, but I personally doubt that what's left will be a viable concern except to those at the top of the franchises.

True there is still some assets to be 'grabbed' but most of the high value London sites have already gone which leaves sites made vacant by MC and DO rationalisation.
