Stage 1 issued despite being in hospital

Hello!

Long time viewer first time poster! This site is very handy although its sad to see we all have the
same problems up and down the country. I had to go into hospital for an operation. I gave all the
paperwork and appointments to the bosses well before the times they were for. I had the operation
and was off for a month. I came back to work and had my interview regarding my sickness 3 days after
I returned. I was informed by the manager that he would let me know the outcome soon. This is not my
normal manager as he is on holiday he is only a cover. 2 days after on my bay I recieved a letter telling me it
was being issued. I havent signed anything yet, I havent been off sick for 5 years and that was due to an
accident on duty! I was told that the 1st stage is always at the managers discretion however they 'are under
pressure from above' to issue them. That wasnt told to me by the manager who issued it either. I just think its
unfair that each case is not looked at individually and i feel its just a case of ' oh just dish it out' The other
joke is that you cant appeal. Our office has no union rep either

We had a bloke,no sick for 20 years then he went sick with a bad back,i think he was off for 2 or 3 weeks.
Gave him a stage 1 on his return!

Its a sad state of affairs what's going on within the company!

Firstly sorry to hear about the illness by the way, I'm sure no managers have shown you any concern regarding the situation so far, just a number to them..

Stage 1 cannot be appealled! but if it reached stage 3 level, the reason behind issuing the stage 1 will be taken into account and could be deemed unfair/harsh..

Its notlike im after special treatment its just that I dont feel that my situation has been treated any different form say that off somebody who had a cold /sore throat that I but the fact Ive been upfront about it all along and gave them all the necessary documentation its pissed me off that its just a standard 'well your off sick
so stage 1' The thing is my doctor asked me if I wanted more time off! and I told him no Im ready to return. Last time I ever do that!

Experience tells me, whatever your Doc say's! Atos are the only Medical expert, Royal Mail listen too.. Also with experience, Royal Mail have a view that (Open honesty, results in a charge) not Honesty is the best Policy..

Personally i would accept the stage 1, but have it stated within the report that medical advice "experts" have noted this problem may recur. I cannot emphasis that point enough, it will help you in the long run if you need time off in the future..

Yeah but it's not that we don't believe the illness is genuine it's just the amount of time you've had off as agreed with your union is unacceptable.

Oh and NEVER do Royal Mail any favours either,they will ALWAYS crap on you from a great height whenever it suits them!

Same here mate, no sickness in 13 years then i had accident which resulted in sore back, Atos assessed and agreed with my Doctor with my being off for around a month but still my Dom found no underlying reasons for my absence, i think he is also on one for his time off, lets face it, they are just puppets and don't think for themselves.
If the manual says it then it must be so

Make sure to have ready, any medication you're taking, the timescale of the illness so far, any advice put to you from the doctors..

Remember ATOS are paid by Royal Mail (to get you back to work) even though your own family doctor has stated the facts, Royal Mail still disregard medical experts from the profession, Royal Mail still see the infamous ATOS examination over the PHONE as money well spent, on top of the money paid in sick pay...
