dilema... hours...
i will soon be given a contract that i must sign that states i will commence work at 7am till 2pm. But i cannot start until 8am, as i have a partner who works nights.
this was not a problem with my work until recently.(someone would always sort my mail, and i would do uther things to make the time up)
And now i have been told it is my responsibility when the new implementations come in that i must find a work colleague to sort my mail from 7 till 8. And pay them, cash from my wage.
now as i have children, this £25.80 a week £103 a month or £1341 a year, will be taxed, and will in the longterm affect my tax credits award. And what i am entitled to i.e child care.
also i think this is illegal.
anyone offer advice or clear this up for me...
i have also been told if i do not arrange for someone to sort my mail, i will be disciplined and eventually fired.
i really could do with some advice.

Can't the work be left unsorted until you've arrived? Effectively working 8 to 3

Re: dilema... hours...
Ask for different duty to allow you to work at the hours you want. Assuming this is possible, but it might result in less hours and less pay.

Re: dilema... hours...
i've asked that question.
and im not changing duty. i will be paid for set hours, and if that mail isnt sorted its my responsibility.
i asked him, could you not pay me less hours and pay someone else more for doing the sorting.
catagorically no... because that means he is liable for the mail being sorted. which is one more thing for him to worry about.

Re: dilema... hours...
There is a form you fill out and you can ask to start at 8am, your manager is obliged to consider your request for family friendly hours, whether he grants your request is another matter , i think the form is in the downloads section of this forum, you should also try to get your union rep involvedpink_lady wrote:i cant start until 8. because my partner isnt home until 7.30. and we have children. that i have to stay with until he's back.P13 wrote:Can you not apply for family friendly hourspink_lady wrote:i will soon be given a contract that i must sign that states i will commence work at 7am till 2pm. Re: dilema... hours...
i'm also a temp contract. so what he is saying is either agree to what he is saying. or there is the door. i've told him i'm not happy organizing people to sort my mail, as its not fair, also thats its stressing me out.
and his response was i pay you to do a job, i dont care how its done but if its not done i dont need you.
to be fair... i've totally had enough. i

Re: dilema... hours...
If you have been coming at 8 for a good length of time and he knows this is because of family commitments, then just put this in writing
these are the hours i am available, and give a copy and keep a copy. Also see your rep about it. I had 2 cases and they both have it sorted.
