7AM starts why??

Why the hell do RM want us to start later at 7am??
I was told this by the Union rep this morning.
I cannot think of one reason why they would want us to start 45 minutes later in the mornings.
I can think of many dissadvantages like delivering in the hottest part of the day in summer and in winter we would be delivering in the dark.
It would muck up a lot of Posties with children at school for a start who need picking up as well.

Welcome to the house of fun. Some of our shifts on delivery - full time - only start at 8.30/8.45 - now that really is in the dark - but the SA collection guys seem to manage.

Surely your starting times are based on your last arrival times for CSS mail. If this is say 8.15am then I would hope everyone would be out the office by 9.30. Say a 5 hours outdoor span with m/r and pouching off included. You then work it back from your finishing time. If finishing time is say 14.30 and your on 8 hour day then you have 5 hours outdoors from 9.30 to 14.30 and 3 hours indoor work. so if you leave office at 9.30 take the 3 hours indoors from that so you should start at 6.30am. Think that's how I will work it out and it's not rocket science so a manager can work it out as well.

Later starts means the mail can leave the MC later meaning less night shifts in the MC. Less night shifts = less allowances.

Apparently clash they, unlike the staff, haven't had a D&M revision consequently they're on a 6 to 2 even though half of the P&L shifts don't finish until 2hr 30/45 later and any problems are left to the locker OPG and only the bulk duties (4) now start at 6 everyone else the times are staggered through to 8.45.

I thought that 7am was the lastest start time for full time staff according to the last agreement......or wasn't that worth the paper it was printed on?

Nowhere has ever offered an explanation for later starts and the silence is deafening so i'm certain it's something they don't want to get out.

My guess is that they are after more timed deliveries off firms. Any drivers with firms will know how anxious some are when the mail is later than normal, especially just after a revision (when the later starts come in)

I expect it is more to do with reducing the number of staff on nights in MCs particularly drivers doing runs to DOs.

We had changed start time to 7am last October and still don't like it.

Later starts are because of the super dooper billion pound put the mail through it 3 times as so to aid modernisation machines.

TBH I always thought start times would be even later and more hybrid delivery/collection duties raised to do away with SA collections.

We in Salisbury Plain garrisons are starting at Half 7.have been for about 3 years now.
