Paid by Royal Mail whilst on Jury service

Hi, sorry I have a question.

I am due to go on Jury service and dont seem to be able to get a definate answer from my manager.

He took copies of all the forms and just handed me back everything. But no one will confirm defiantley if Royal Mail pay you whilst you are on Jury service.

You are only supposed to complete the Loss of Earnings form if your employer is NOT paying you. When I ask my manager he just says you should be! Not a definate yes or no

Any advice would be greatly received

What happened with me was, Citation photocopied by manager, I'm given the photocopies - original sent to Jury Service team to fill in- completed and stamped original sent back to me - attend jury service - afterwards complete Loss of eanings form for each day in attendance and send to court.
Court send you cheque - RM deduct amount in cheque from your next pay, or split the amount taken over a couple of weeks - they give you that option.

In other words, you get paid WHILE you are attending court. But RM know that the court will pay you your daily rate so what the court pays you is recovered.

Hi have done jury service just recently,my manager wuoldnt give me answers and filled the form in himself. Got in touch will payroll direct,and sent the form to the jury service team as they are the only ones that can calculate how much you earn each day.Handed it to the jury manager on arrival.Royal mail pay you and claim it back afterwards,so on your last day ask for a reciept of when you have been on jury service and what the court will pay you.I sent it direct to payroll and they took it out of my pay after i was paid by the court.

I've just received summons for Jury Service.
Phoned HR at Sheffield.
You must send Loss of Earnings form to the Jury Service Team for them to complete. They will work out average daily net earnings and complete the form, this is to be handed in to Court staff on arrival on first day. At the end the Court will issue a statement detailing days of attendance and payment for Loss of Earnings. The statement must be forwarded to HR and they will work out what, if any, payment should be made back to RM.
The daily earnings will include any allowances, SA and overtime and is worked out from the previous 18 weeks. In theory this means that you will not be of pocket at the end.
RM will pay flat money (I presume they mean what your wages are when on leave or sick) whilst you are on Jury Service.

I don't know how you can't get out of it, I have and so has my wife, it should be a rule that if you CAN'T get out of jury service you shouldn't be allowed to serve on a jury

Could that explain the competency level of a certain jury thats in the news at the moment.
