Numbers that don't add up.....

We get as an allocation for a van share 20 attendance calls per 500 Delivery Points
for Van / Shared van (5 of which are deemed unsuccessful).
If 5 out of 20 are deemed unsuccessful that's a failure rate of 25% or basically 25% of the houses you deliver to have no-one in....with me so far?

If that's the case how come on the myroyalmail website when talking about delivery to neighbour it says....

Customers say they prefer to have items delivered to their homes, though 55% of homes are usually empty during normal working hours.

What about on Council Estates where people ARE in but dont answer the door due to people being drunk, stoned , asleep till luchtime , think its the debt collector or other reasons that must be at least another 20%

Because you're only calling on 20 in every 500 you don't know if the other 230 are empty or not.

I was under the impression, perhaps incorrectly, that we are expected to have 20 attendance calls per 500 drops (yeah right, try 35-50 these days) and that ~50% of those are expected to be P739ed (which tallies up reasonably with that myroyalmail quote).

Which in turn means that half the attendance packets we take out are going to need time at the intended address, then at least one neighbour (if not a Recorded Signed For or Special Delivery), before returning to the original address to leave a P739 stating what has eventually happened to said packet.

Which means a typical round is going to need somethig in the ballpark of an extra 60minutes of delivery time to keep the same number of drops and implement this "leaving things with neighbours" as managers intend and imply on that D2D info sheet.

Yet I get the impression they are officially saying to us that trying neighbours is optional and they do not intend to reduce walk sizes to cope with the workload of this new initiative!

Same old s**t from them,just like the timings for writing out a card,Bob on their site and in the courier says to do this then do that and when it's all done 2 mins have passed,the timings in Pegasus is.......64 seconds.

If people know they are going to be out during normal work hours they are less likely to arrange to have stuff delivered then (or get it delivered to work instead), hence the percentage of failed attendance calls may not be the same as the overall percentage of unoccupied houses.

I lived in a council house 39 years ago when I left HM forces they weren't the ghetto areas that some are today and unemployment and abject poverty wasn't around on anything like the scale it is now. Of course I didn't live in one very long and so I have little idea of when the tide turned.

I thought about that and I'd maybe buy that for a 5-10% swing phil but 30% of difference?
They are full of s**t and pick these numbers out of the big book of bollocks is the real story.
