In our office we have got our revision about right, with about half a dozen out of 100 posties cutting of on a regular basis.The last four days though has seen at least 80% either cutting off or going over,our trays second time round are getting to us later, not only are some of the letters upside down which slows you down but we are getting 40% of mail in first tray and 60% in the second tray.In our office if you are going to cut off you still have to take out all mail, then the following day instead of in ward sorting you throw of what mail wasnt delivered , when you have 50 plus cutting of that doesnt leave a lot of sorters to throw off that days mail,we suggested leaving mail in the frame that we thought would not get delivered,but the dom said that we were not to be trusted and that we would come back earlier than allowed.We have been told by our manager that during a confrence call with other doms it was said that it is happening in all offices that are serviced by gatwick m.c due to new work practises.A big part of me thinks that it is a act of treachery by royal mail to change start times to 7am for those offices that start earlier,we shall see.

As soon as the schools go back at the start of September it goes manic. It’s the same every year.

Flats galore, advertising material, companies in a headlong rush to get at the public’s money, the driving force in the economy that is Christmas has already started. Couple that with the quarterly magazines (RHS’ The Garden, National Trust etc.) that get released at this time and we’re inundated.

I didn’t realise that Gatwick had introduced new working practices, though they may had shed staff, my guess was that they were simply overwhelmed by the quantity. It would be just like us to be caught unawares by this. RM’s approach seems to be “Why plan ahead?” or “Plan, what plan?””

Even in our small office we were hit last Thursday with an additional lorry, the full 16 yorks. At the moment we are continuing to see around 60% of Walk-Sequenced early with the 40% on the last lorry, though admittedly on the odd occasion recently the split is nearer 50/50.

Still never mind, look on the bright side; right now, somewhere on your patch an estate agent has sold a property and will feel the need to share this fascinating piece of good news with every single household on your walk and on a Saturday for sure.

Initially, following the revision our start times were 7:30am on Mondays and 7:00 for the rest of the week, so I don’t think there was any rule prohibiting it.

Since then they’ve been adjusted 3 times (Christmas aside).

We were told that start times for DOs were partly influenced by the distance from Gatwick. The furthest offices would have their Walk-Sequenced run and despatched first and the nearer the office to Gatwick the later their WS would be run in the plan.

Consequently, if you are near to Gatwick and you are not getting your WS in until late then it is unlikely that they will want you much before its arrival.

The wording of the agreement I think is "the majority" of offices.
The workplan however is supposed to support innovative attendance patterns.
With a 7am start you can only have a basic 8hr day (assuming last letter 3pm).
This then rules out a lot of attendance patterns aimed at giving 4 day weeks etc.

Any move to changing start times has to be agreed. So it is against the agreement to "impose" 7am starts.
No executive action. No industrial action.
If you don't agree get the rep to go to disagreement. (If that gets you anywhere)

Probably a mix of the start of autumn pressure and larger MCs starting to horde equipment even though they aren't allowed to.

Hmm, bit puzzled, unless I have mistaken what is going on at my gaff. Numerous attendance patterns, 0700 starts with exceptions of business drivers and family friendly arrangements.

Gone will be the early starts and early finishes and it will be a 9am till 5pm Mon to Fri with Saturdays abolished by the year 2015 that way they don't need floaters so jobs gone as well believe me.

Very true fella, I also reckon some of the collection drive duties will go also meaning the deliveries will do that part of the job just like we used to when the job was ...... well you know the rest
