Attacked by dog advice needed

I got attacked by a dog, an alsatian today whilst on delivery, due to quick thinking and a bit of luck i avoided getting any injuries but was badly shaken up. On top of this i was then verbally assualted by the owner whilst trying to avoid getting attacked for a second time by the dog. Every day when i go to deliver to this address the dog goes nuts and puts me in a situation where i feel my welfare is being put at risk. Usually there is a small gate that so far has stopped the dog from doing anything like this. It wouldnt take much for the dog to jump this gate imo. Today the dog was loose and followed me to someone elses front door and then tried to bite me.

When i returned to the office after completing my delivery i tried to speak to my manager but suprise suprise the manager had already left and wasnt due back that day. I mentioned what happened to the psg and then left to go home.

Could someone enlighten me on what rights or reasonable options i have to avoid going anywhere near this dangerous dog?

Tell your manager next time your in work, or if off tomorrow call him.

Demand that due to H&S reasons (Dog attack, aggressive customer) you do not feel safe delivering mail - They should suspend deliveries for this address, and any others that are affected. In fact a similar incident (aggressive customer) happened at my office some years ago and we doubled up that part of the delivery so that there was 2 posties delivering, a manager even went out and met them at the point on the duty.

This happerned on our delivery 2 months ago 3rd time it had attacked a different postman , after the 2nd time the Dom sent them a letter and notified the dog warden saying if it happened again he would contact the police which he did after the 3rd occasion and the Police ARE prosecuting the owner .
But dont deliver to the property until the DOM does something about it.

tell your manager you refuse point blank to deliver there until the situation is sorted out and if he says you have to tell him HE is putting YOUR safety at risk and you will act upon it.

Tell your Manager to inform the dog warden and the Police and "do not" deliver mail if you think you are at risk.
Don't let him fob you off, report this an incident the next postie or child may not be so lucky.
At our office, if a dog is loose or behaving dangerously then we don't deliver and bring it back RM policy.
See your H&S rep. Check again later with your DOM that he reported it, if he didn't ring the warden yourself or get the H&S rep to do it that's what we're for.

The delivery needes to be suspended until it is risk assessed by the dom. This includes the customers attitude as well as the dog.

Get copies abd keep everything in writting just in case this happens again and you need time off sick etc.

This topic of dogs attacking posties clearly needs to be sorted out by someone.I have been bitten etc and got the Tetanus jabs aswell. And it is not funny at all.Some members of the public have a bloody good laugh when they see a dog attacking a postie. What gets me is you walk down a road , several other members of public walking around ,the dog sees you and WHOOSH ! It has happened several times .I personnally think ( although dogs are colour blind ) somehow see the silver in the hi-viz jacket and go mad ?

If dog is loose outside you can refuse to deliver to the entire street - that'll soon sort stuff out ....

Furthermore to this post above the owner IS being charged and is in court this friday 23rd November on TWO separate charges of:-
OWNER OF A DOG WHO ALLOW IT TO BE DANGEROUSLY OUT OF CONTROL IN A PUBLIC PLACE AND CAUSE INJURY

if you see an alsation not under control ie loose don't enter no matter what. They get too excited. I was bitten by one 2 years ago and one when I am a kid. I don't like them.

dog on my walk, attacked me once... out in the street whilst i walked down road... dog went straight for me and i put the boot in, 2 days later same thing happened and i launched a wheelie bin at it...

they now collect their mail.
