Re: local agreements
What is SUPPOSED to happen is managment come up with a plan (eg -lapsing)they discuss it with union rep ,the rep should go to its members and discuss and vote wether u accept it .He gets ideas from its members then goes back to managment with them .Now what really happens is we find out on shop floor what union rep has agreed to and its members have had no say .

Re: local agreements
Yes they will be in writing and signed by both union rep and DO ,but the union rep shouldnt sign nothing until h his members has been consulted ,but as everyone knows that just doesnt happen .The first we here of anything is when DO comes round and tells you to do a certain thing lapsing etc we give off and the DO says your union has agreed with it

Re: local agreements
local union rep's are required to negotiate with management on negotiable issues on your behalf. Union rep's negotiate agreements they do not make them. That is the responsibility of the members. A union rep at certain stages in the negotiation process should consult and inform the members - that's you and by you I mean the majority. You then have certain options: -
1. Accept 2. Reject 3. We like these bits but we don't like that so go back and see if you can get it changed and come back to us.
A union representative should not sign a local agreement without the majority support of the members. If this is happening - you need a new union rep.

What if "the majority" want an agreement that is outside of CWU principles or National Agreements?swashy wrote:local union rep's are required to negotiate with management on negotiable issues on your behalf. I am thinking specifically of attendance patterns where the f/t staff have got 1 in 4 Saturdays but their "minority" p/t colleagues have stayed on 1 in 6?
Is the reps loyalty to his/her members or the CWU?
