Hi there

just a couple of quickies.

When a resign comes into my office, i have been told that the Locker positions are to be ringfenced as per national agreement, can someone send me in the direction as to where i can find this, as i have a couple of members asking why this is so, and i dont actually know why.

secondly, in my office we have 19 walks of which 5 will be for Part timers, how are these 5 walks decided, when the resign takes place are they ringfenced first or at the point when five walks remain.

Why are the walks being set aside for p/t staff?

Surely if the spans are the same then the only difference between a p/t and f/t is the indoor work. Why should any walk have to be set up for a full time or a part time employee in that case. You just add the indoor work to whatever contracted person picks that duty. Start with 1st person on seniority list until you get to the bottom.

but does that give the right for the people in the locker to stay in there, if they are not the most senior, my area rep says they will stay in there unless they decide to leave.

i have been told that 5 walks will be put aside as we have 6 p/t staff, so 1 per walk and a floater. These 5 walks will be paired with a F/T postie.
This is what i have been told, thus im looking for were this is written in regards to both points

Yes.

It is difficult to comment on the p/t walk things.
The walks should be allocated according to seniority...............

Thanks, i understand why they are trying to get 5 walks for the P/Timers as they are presently the leave reserves in the office, and as we know replacing a FT worker with a PT leave reserve doesnt work when it comes to indoor work.

Can anyone give me an example of how the PT postie work in there office post revision.

im pretty new to this union lark so im tryiong to pick it up as i go along.

Well the locker duty is not likely to change and is therefore not liable for a repick. I'm not entirely sure why those changes came about, in the old days everything went in the pot - now there are so many exceptions it's barely worth bothering. The indoor work is where the hours will be saved on IPS.

In our revision the PHG duties are ringfenced unless one of the holders decideds to leave it.

The rest are up for grabs in seniority order. We had a bit of a problem with the split of drivers/non drivers as in too many walkers, but seems to have been sorted.

So the p/t staff are going to be given duties ahead of f/t posties with more seniority?
A p/t leave reserve can easily cover a f/t duty.
Either you lapse the indoor element of the duty, or if that isn't possible then you bring the p/t in on overtime and call it flexing up.
Are your annual leave reserves full-time?

Yes.

It's a no is it not,if others are just as suitable and more senior then they have the right to sign for it.
