Meal relief time change

Since our revision we have been failing miserably. Our Dom thinks the answer is to bring our meal relief forward to an hour and 20 mins into our duty. Meaning we then work 5 and a half hours without a break, that is going to be a killer, I am hoping he can't do this but my fears tell me he can and our new useless union rep isn't much use.

Any help that I can shove in his face?

Rest breaks - a break during your working day
As an adult worker (over 18), you will normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you are expected to work more than six hours at a stretch.
A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There is no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.
The requirements are:
• the break must be in one block
• it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
• you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
• your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

there is no legal definition of middle in relation to this, as long as its at the start or on end of shift to make your day shorter or longer then it is legal unfortunately

Why would a workforce agree to putting their meal relief 1hr 20 into an 8hr shift.
There might not be a legal definition of "middle" but a common sense one would do for me.
Is he making this change by executive action?

How many hours/day?

Attendance length total breaks

Less than 2 hours 30 minutes none (a 10 min grace break should be provided if work permits)
2 hours 30 to 3 hours 10 mins
3 hours 1 to 3 hours 30 15 mins
3 hours 31 to 4 hours 59 20 mins
5 hours to 7 hours 30 mins
7 hours 1 to 8 hours 59 40 mins
9 hours to 10 hours 59 50 mins
11 hours to 12 hours 59 60 mins
13 hours or longer 70 mins

Management can dictate when you take half of your standard entitlement, leaving 20 minutes to be taken outdoors, but it is completely unreasonable to take 40 minutes after an exhausting 1hour20mins... Does this mean you get 40 minutes for every 1hour20mins you work through the whole working day?

It has had absolutely no effect on how much we deliver/don't deliver.

All these petty measure are totally counterproductive, we just dig in deeper. The breaks were agreed by the union in our office. We as an office were not consulted. Not happy.

Yeah same, it's more to get the meal relief out the way rather than serve its true purpose of giving us a rest, I'm not happy!

We have an early break on Mon/Tues 8-8.40 thats 1hr 50mins after we start. We have shorter Mon/Tues. Weds-Fri its the full 40 at 9am and Sat its 20+20.

ours got changed to 7.10am to 7.30am 20 mins compulsory but then they realised they couldnt fit in the WTL .
Then the P/T staff annoyed after NOT being made up to F/T as promised after working F/T hours are refusing to come in early on P/L to prep which they have been doing since revision and are now starting at their proper start timeat 7.30am so they have to have their M/R at 8.00am.
