Union Transfer Agreement

Post by woodface »

I have been looking for a transfer for a while now and have been having some issues the new process.
The two main ones are thus :
1. Why are all new duties being advertised part time? Saying this is all the hours available in the office in question is no excuse as the last deal was very clear that a larger percentage of jobs would be full time and if this continues this will clearly not be the case.
2. Why when you go for a transfer do you have to accept losing your permanent contract. Who in the union agreed to this! This surely goes completely against the entire reason for the existence of any union. A union's first and ultimate responsibility before pay rises, before working standards surely has to be to ensure job security because without this we would all be on short term contracts and the union would not exist because there wouldn't be anyone employed long enough to be a member.

Is there any really wonder why so few members bother casting votes when balloted (Our last branch vote for a NEC officer had only 6% of possible votes) when the union seems to as much against them as the management are.

1. reason most are advertised as part time as the current pt staff in the office will get made ft before a transfer in so their duty is then the vacancy which is advertised as pt

2. you dont have to accept a tempory contract unless that is all the new office is offering you will probably find the new office has not had its revision yet hence why only tempory contracts till it has(not right but thats the way its working)

Intresting so part time staff take preference over someonr wanting to transfer who is already a full time employee, And i got the impression royalmail wanted to cut back on the amount if full timers they employ , where,s the logic in that ,surely a fulltime transfer takes preference ,
Again wheres the union in all this

Hello, is that an ostrich' arse I see? We are still waiting for the 75/25 breakdown as told to the union by RM.

I'm P/T and we have had transfers coming to us................I'm still P/T & nobody in our office has been made up to full time. No revision has taken place yet either, and certainly not at 75/25% split.

its not that part time staff take preference over a transfer in, its that local staff in the office pt or ft take preference as per the way forward agreement

I've had to transfer to an office within 6months of a transfer to another office(This has been allowed for personal reasons.) I've picked up a 24hr contract as this was being advertised externally, 30hr/ FT jobs were advertised internally at the same which I was told I could not go for....fair enough. As per the way forward agreement.

But now the rep is saying I won't be able to move up hours for 6months if more jobs are advertised, I've read the agreement and it seems once I'm in the office it's just seniority that dictates whether I can get any future job advertised,as long as it isn't specialist. No period of six months etc is mentioned. Am I correctly reading the agreement? I do know he tries things on sometimes....I think this may be such an occasion

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I brought this point up on another thread not so long ago, fair enough if you have to go down to part time hours, but to lose any pemanant contract and end up as a temp who can be shown the door after 6 months is disgusting, once again I'm left wondering what the hell am I paying my union subs for.
