Variation of hours – Where necessary, for example when traffic
volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals
may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by
up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual
circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual
hours would not change.
Questions:
1. Were the volumes unexpectedly high.
2. Were there any resourcing issues.
3. Did they take any individual circumstances into account.
4. Did they ask.

Re: flexability
Banking of hours has never been agreed by the CWU. This was going to be reviewed under the BT 2010 Agreement, but as far as I am aware this has never happened. Flexibility is not a process for banking hours, or clawing back underworked hours. This scenario is cropping up on a regular basis now, and it is about time the PEC sorted this matter out once and for all. If you are looking in on this thread Dingo, can you please throw some light on why this continues to be a thorn in the side of the members.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: flexability
I ask again, should you not be working your contracted hours on a Tuesday? What has the amount of work got to do with it? If you are contracted 5am - 1pm then thats what you should be doing!POSTMAN wrote:Sometimes there is not enough work,s**t happens. They are trying to pull a fast one.Patrick Clifton wrote:Should you not be working your contracted hours on Tuesday?

Then you sit and twiddle your thumbs until either the end of your shift or until they give you something to do.

Re: flexability
Patrick, if Royal Mail wish you to come back to the DO, SPDO or wherever you are based, they should issue an instruction to that effect and then you can clock out at the end of your shift. It has always been recognised that when you have finished your duty and any lapsing that has been added within your contacted hours, and no further instructions for further work has been given or identified, you are free to go home or wherever you want to go. As previously stated, it is for Royal Mail to fill our contacted hours and not our responsibility.

Ah, so you have not had your duties revised yet then?! That will be why you have so much free time on your hands then...Lincox wrote:Patrick, if Royal Mail wish you to come back to the DO, SPDO or wherever you are based, they should issue an instruction to that effect and then you can clock out at the end of your shift. Re: flexability
excellent idea, anyone can write any finish time on the signing out sheet, needs to be governed either with a clocking machine or put the signing out sheet in the dom's office ..... there again he's gone well before we get back! Get the managers clocking out as well and record all their many tea breaks and pub breakfast trips !!
Why are lino's paid full-time ??
