Never thought it would happen at our place

You can gather from past few posts p&l is a total farce at our place. Mail being left daily, packets/parcels not going out for 3 days now and staff about as low as you can get. Today was the final straw for me and from monday im looking elsewhere for a job. A full timer tied up most of a shared van delivery whilst waiting for his partner who is part time. Partner came in and said i can only work to my time. As the delivery was nearly all tied up they were told by manager to knock on door with packets/parcels but if no one was in just return packet to van so as to save time not writing a card out. Couldnt believe what i was hearing. We are being told at every wtll or in every courier that packets/parcels are our only growth product yet they treat customers like this. Disgusting.

how does it save time knocking then leaving? cause they only have to be done again tommorrow

Exactly, a total false economy that! it might be a pain, but what I do is knock once and if I see no signs of life I start writing the card straight away, then do a second knock, finish the card and post it. Quite often they will come halfway through a card, but then I just chuck it, no harm done and saves me time over the day if I have loads of packets. To send them back without leaving a card is just daft = twice as much work the day after, God there are some total f***ing morons running this company.

Common sense tells you to knock , start writing , knock again then post it, saves time just like we,ve always done it but the thing what p&l fails on is the RECORDED items where you have to use that goddam pda .
What a chuffing waste of time that is , at least make them TRACKED so if they are small enough we can just scan them and post them. I'd rather you just pay a £1 or 95p extra for a tracked sticker at the p.o. , saves taking recorded letters back.

I think the issue is about the specific day (and it is a saturday) - the walks had already been tied up by the full-time staff in the expectation that the part-timer will complete the rounds regardless of time (going over or not)...

It might save a bit of time if no P739 cards are left for packets where customers are not in. The returned packets will all simply be delivered on Monday - customers will not know about it.

How much time will be saved? If they extend the same principle to recorded letter - maybe 15 - 20 minutes depending on volume.

So basically that's 50% of the way to deliberately delaying the mail? Dodgy territory or what.

AFAIK you can't buy Tracked at any PO branch, only businesses can use Tracked and they have minimum posting volumes to meet before they can use Tracked. Also some Tracked items do require a signature, it depends on what options the customer chooses

BTW, I am not endorsing knocking on and not using P739. I was just highlighting that it will save time on the day. As opposed to leaving bundles of mail behind and/or possibly streaming mail when the items have already been bagged.

Anyhow, we should not pretend that a lot more packets are left behind on saturdays than any other day even under the old system. For starters, late start times (and any OT) now mean some postmen will return on saturday to find the office closed. What to do with big packets?

The manager was just trying to resolve the issue by going slightly rogue
