So how come, to get the postie job and therefore to get my ID, I have to be security checked and verified and CRB etc . I agree with all that and think it's a good thing.

The ID, can get me into Royal Mail buildings with access to other peoples specials, packets, chq books and other valubles that are in the post........ and yet when I go to my local office (not my work office) in uniform to collect a special that has been 739'd, my ID isn't good enough ?

I was told I could be a manager trying to set them up , I pointed out the sweat on my shirt, my furrowed brow and the tread worn off my shoes and asked if these were things associated with managers, but to no avail.

In my local callers office and in the callers office in the DO I work, there are posters displayed with a list of acceptable ID. One of these is Royal Mail Employee ID.

You could have still been a manager, the wear on your shoes and the sweat could have been caused by the endless trips to the coffee machine

Please remember that if you are collecting items from your local Delivery or Enquiry Office, you will need to bring the P739 card and an acceptable type of identification with you. The following types of identification can be used:

Cheque guarantee/credit/debit card
Bank/building society book
Valid passport
Cheque book
Driving licence
Photo Identity Card (Foreign National, Military, Police Warrant, Royal Mail Employee)
Under 18s (National Insurance Card, Medical Card or Savings Book)

It took me 16 months to get my RM ID (and yes i had to ask for it). Some people have been in our DO for 3 tears and still haven't got their ID. Whats the point of having ID if not everybody gets one??

I have however had my picture taken about 10 times it just never gets to the ID part

Been without with what must be approaching a whole year now, it expired in January anyway but still RML have not produced me a new one.

Sorry i had to read that several times !!! So what you are saying is any Tom, Dick or Harry in a block of flats with only one letterbox can go to your office and pick up a special in someone elses name with no ID ????? I presume your DOM allows this practice to go on ?

Yeah its accepted. We live somewhere with no crime (Islands) so there is no problems with that sort of thing. If they have the slip then they can have the parcel, and even if they don't! Never had any problems. Thats the way I was shown so thats what I do. If they look dodgy then I would ask.
