Callers Office Job Not Being Done On Seniority

Hello, In my office of about 50, a callers office job has just become vacant and a notice has been put on but it's being done by interview and tests? Is this right? Totally ignoring seniority and I think they already know who they are giving the job too.

Callers office should be resourced by Suitability and Seniority.
The most senior member with the applicable skill set gets the job.

sounds familiar,,,,our job went up for applications with the wording suitability.......yep the seniors didnt get it ????? figures if you knew the lad and the manager,,,,,,now comeing up to a revision and an office re-sign the only job not to go to a pick is the callers....that is good old ring fenced,,,,when area rep was brought in he upheld the ring fence

Our Callers office job was originally to be done by interview and selection by management.
Our union rep told him that this was no longer a specialist job and that he could not do this
and that if he offered the job to anyone other than the most senior then he would have to
explain why the senior person was not suitable and would also have to defend himself against
a grievance. He still had to hold the interview because he had put that on the vacancy sheet
but he DID choose the most senior who applied.

What happens if the most senior person who applies isn't capable of performing the tasks that are required for the role?

Ha,ha. applied 3 times for PHG/locker duty. 3 times given to new starters. The last 1 had been there 2 month. I have word for Royal Fail 25 years.

A DEFINITE NO ! Your DOM is living in the past. Callers office used to be a PHG duty. Extra £30 a week. PHG is now history.

So what you are saying is your rep ( a postie ) went above seniority ? So lots all forget about resigns and just choose the duty we want?

When I went for the job in Callers it was done on an interview and suitability, stayed in there nearly 4 years. Good luck to ever wants to work in the Room of Doom, its not the easy option everyone thinks it is. Glad to be out of it

I would of thought that if 2 peeps are trained in there,there is one job on offer and 'another' 2 peeps went for it as well then the last 2 peeps would be wasting their time and wouldn't even get near an interview.

That's how it works.
Royal Mail aren't going to pay to train someone when they have two fully trained members already in for the job,that's where suitability comes in,then the most senior of the two fully trained peeps gets the job.
As for it not being specialist,don't you get an NVQ for it now?
